Wildberry Black Tea from Simpson and Vail . . . .

BERRIES BERRIES BERRIES. Berries near! Berries far! Berries drank from a jar!

Berries sipped in a car!

Berries berries on your tongue; berries are for everyone!

This berry blend is so berry-licious that I had to slip into a rhyme trance. I’m back now, though, to let you know that wow, this is a lot of berries.

It’s a blend of wildberries, blackberries, and raspberries. They ooze into one thick (slightly NyQuil-like) mix.

Iced, the berries are more sweet and less medicinal, but they’re still pretty strong.

I definitely prefer this iced. It’s got a lot of a perky kick that works better cold than hot. If you’re a berry fanatic, you’ll love this BERRY MUCH. But if you’re on the fence, this might be a little much.

You need to reach in your heart. To thine own self be true. Berries here, berries there, berries are everywhere! Berries are pals I love the most! Berries have taken over this post!

Blueberry is Super Starling’s New Jam. . . Blueberry Jam from DAVIDsTea. . . . .

Are you looking for sweet, dark berries — but they aren’t in season? Or maybe they ARE in season but you don’t want to go outside? Because there are mosquitoes, mud, heat, and other people out there?

This tea is a lovely solution to that issue. This blend is mostly currants, blueberries, and elderberries. At first glance, you might think the blend is rolled into balls like an oolong, then you realize it’s berries! TONS OF BERRIES! There is black tea in this, but not much. This tea is a “1” on the David’s Tea caffeine scale, which means “Low.” (There’s “None,” “Low,” “Medium,” and “Stimulant.”) Black teas tend to be “2/Medium”, but this one has so little black tea in it that it’s a 1. This is great if black tea isn’t your jam (GET IT?) or if you need something less high in caffeine for health or time-of-day reasons.

This tea will also help you find a bridesmaid dress, if that’s what you need.

Seriously.

I bought this tea after a devastating day at the King of Prussia Mall. I’d forgotten to pack my bridesmaid dress for a wedding three hours away and was trying to find a replacement. Nearly in tears, I ducked into the KoP’s David’s Tea for a breather.

Sometimes a person just needs to stand among tea for a few minutes. Especially a David’s Tea store, which has a rainbow of pleasing colors, free things to sip, and, typically, interesting-looking employees.

Today was no exception. There was one cute nerdy girl and one badass punk girl, both of whom were lovely to behold and chat with. We talked about favorite flavors and my aversion to matcha. They let me sniff EVERYTHING. I bought this tea and Lemon Pound Cake (which I’ll also review shortly!).

Then I found a suitable bridesmaid dress replacement right after!

Was it the tea calm that gave me the inner strength to find the right dress?

YES.

PROBABLY.

So, in summary: I looked great in the dress, I like this tea, and I like the store. Win win win!

Boo-Berry Cotton Candy Zomba Tea from 52Teas. . .

Who else but 52Teas would make this amazing breakfast treat into a Halloween inspired tea!?!?!

Boo-Berry Cotton Candy Zomba Tea is a blend of green tea, blueberries, and natural flavors and is a reblend from a few years ago.  When you first open this pouch of Halloween goodness, you are pleasantly greeted with this resounding blueberry sweet-almost vanilla – aroma.  Really lovely and one that just screams, brew me up!

I anxiously prepped up water per the parameters on the package and allowed the tea to cool for a few minutes. I was literally just starting at the timer willing the time to go faster.  When this tea was released a few years ago, I was crazy over it.  I loved the bright blueberry flavors that mingled with the green tea base perfectly with a touch of sweetness.  I haven’t had a blueberry tea that fit the bill exactly and I’ve tried a ton trying to find something similiar.

First sip in and I’m hooked.  The huge blueberries bring in this gorgeous bright and vibrant berry flavor where the natural flavors that have been added in almost bring a sweet yogurt quality.   Toss in the gorgeous contrast of the vegetal tea base-Zomba green tea and you have yourself a proper Halloween treat. I don’t pick up a huge cotton candy flavor but I’m curious if a cold brew wouldn’t yield that flavor profile.  Smooth, fruity, creamy with a slight vegetal twist-this tea has my name written all over it!

Cup after cup, this tea does not disappoint.  Sure this tea isn’t like the original blend but I actually think I enjoy this re-invented blend even more.  I’m extremely partial to 52Teas Zomba tea base and add in the hauntingly fun boo berry flavors, I’m sold.

Grab your pouch soon! This is an extremely limited tea  and even though this is a Halloween inspired treat, this tea would be amazing hot or cold any day of the week!

Well done 52Teas! Well done!

Description

This tea is part reblend, part re-imagining. One tea that sold pretty well was the Boo-Berry Cotton Candy Green Tea that we reblended as part of a “You Choose the Reblend” incentive from our start-up Kickstarter campaign. I happened to have some Zomba Steamed green tea from the Satemwa Estate in Malawi on the shelf and I was trying to think of something to do with it – and since Halloween was approaching, I thought, “Ohh! How about the Boo-Berry Cotton Candy but with the Zomba steamed green tea base? That should be spook-tacular!”

And it is! This is hauntingly delicious! (OK, enough of the Halloween wordplay, already!)

An abundant blueberry AND cotton candy flavor to this – with a lovely sweet, creamy note that hints at vegetation from the Zomba base.

So tasty!

Blueberry Muffin Honeybush from 52Teas. . . .

I love 52 Teas. They have a great selection of unique and exciting flavored teas thanks to their business model of releasing a new small batch custom blended hand-crafted tea each week. The only downfall? The flavors go fast so if you fall in love, you have to act quickly to make sure you get your hands on that particular tea before it is sold out. That, or you hope and beg and pray for the 52 Teas gods to bless you with a reblend of your beloved flavor. I mention this because this particularly tea, Blueberry Muffin Honeybush, is not currently available on 52 Teas website but it may return in the future.

The blueberry flavor of this tea is perfect. It is juicy and just a little sweeter than the fruit itself but that is because it is more reminiscent of the blueberries found in muffins which are more syrupy sweet than fresh blueberries. The honeybush, though a little woody, also contributes a honeyed baked goods flavor that helps sell the idea of blueberry muffins. On top of all that, this tea is a touch buttery which is like the cherry on top.

This tea is a great evening treat. Being based on honeybush means it is naturally caffeine free and that means even the caffeine-sensitive won’t be kept up at night after enjoying a cup.

Wild Blueberry Green from Fava Tea. . . .

Sometimes it’s nice to go back to basics. There are so many funky and unique tea blends when it comes to flavored tea that sometimes I crave something simple. In this case it’s blueberry green tea. Sencha, gunpowder green, white tea, and elderberry, eucalyptus leaves all come together to form this blend. In truth I was nervous when I saw two ingredients. Can you guess which? Eucalyptus leaves and gunpowder green! Eucalyptus can taste kind of medicinal sometimes and the last time I had gunpowder green tea I thought it tasted and smelled like old cigarette smoke. Weird, I know. So I was a bit hesitant but I forged on, curiosity peaked.

I’m telling you, if I hadn’t read the ingredients I wouldn’t even had known that my two “scary ingredients” were in this. In fact, I wouldn’t even have know that this was a blueberry flavored tea. The main quality I noticed in both smell and taste was vegetal sencha green tea. Through and through that’s what I got from this one. That’s not to say that this was a bad blend, the green tea was delicious and would have been great iced! But as far as blueberry goes, it just wasn’t very present. However if you’re a fan of bold green tea, this one’s for you!
