Harvest Moon from Souvia Tea. . . .

I keep trying to write my review, but you guys– all I can think of is apple cinnamon instant oatmeal.

(Okay, let’s back up a sec.)

I brewed this cup of Souvia’s Harvest Moon green tea this morning looking for something calming and settling on my stomach. I wanted something sweet and tasty, but light and not overdone. The dry leaf smells strongly of apples with a hint of spice, which bodes well for what I’m in the mood for.

The literal second the hot water hits my steeper, I am immediately hit with the overwhelming scent-twin of the instant apple cinnamon oatmeal packets of my youth. Seriously, it’s spot-on. I steep for a few minutes, and the flavor matches the scent exactly, with just a hint of grassiness from the green tea. Overall, it’s a pleasant cup, no need for honey (as I often prefer my greens) but there’s the tiniest, lingering thought that I’m actually drinking my adolescent breakfast-to-go. If you’re a fan of warm, comforting scents and chilly-weather-appropriate green teas, this might just be your perfect cup.

In the meantime– I’m going to the grocery store. I’ve got an oatmeal craving to fill.

Apple Cinnamon French Toast from Simpson & Vail

I respect you guys, so I’m not going to beat around the bush. This tea is a solid two thumbs up. Respectful thumbs, angled straight up at the sky. (Which, today, is actually very sunny and pleasant. Wishing you the same.)

You get apple. You get cinnamon. You get maple. You get a little bit of a malt note that I might be imagining. But I’ve now put the idea of malt in your head. You’ll therefore taste it when you try this. There’s a deep black tea note that hangs out in the background, letting the sweet kids romp around on the main stage.

It’s definitely a “romp” kind of tea. This is not your Serious Business Tea at A Somber Board Meeting tea.

Um, what kind of tea would that even be? Probably a smoky lapsang. Or maybe some very straightforward, mind-stirring green. If it’s a fancy bank or tobacco company, the black. If it’s a hip tech company, definitely the green.

Regardless, this is Bring Along In A Travel Container While You Babysit Some Kids At A Park In The Fall tea. Or maybe you have your own kids. But I have to borrow some occasionally. You’d think that someone wonky and soft like me would be a terrible babysitter, but I can attain a good balance of fun and firm.

Especially if I have caffeine.

Praise be black teas and their energy-inducing properties. The black tea in this will give you the nudge needed to be a better business person, mom, babysitter, or basically anything you’d like to be on this lovely day.

Happy Witch Blend from Sunshine Cottage

One of my favorite Etsy shops is Sunshine Cottage. They offer great flavored teas, tea accessories, and other wonderful items sure to make you smile.  So naturally when I saw they had a tea named Happy Witch Blend.. . I was all over it!

il_570xn-1020800878_kguvHappy Witch Blend is a mix of sweet apples, cinnamon, spices, and a touch of vanilla flavoring. A wonderful fall treat to be sure. I grabbed my tea pot and instantly started steeping.

A few minutes later, I had myself a gorgeous brew waiting for me to try. This tea had one of those amazing wonderful fragrances that make you just sit back and enjoy the moment.

One sip in and this tea was exactly what I was looking. Fresh sweet apple notes mingling with a mix of different spices that remind you of chai.  The vanilla did give way to a sweetness that I noticed right away.  The black tea base lent itself to subtle malty notes that I found myself really enjoying. They contrasted nicely with all of the sweet notes coming from the vanilla and apple flavoring. happy-witch-blend

As good as this tea was without any add ins, I think a touch of honey would really elevate the tea even more. Or even a shot of whiskey or brandy. . .which is what I did along with a dollop of cream and a dusting of cinnamon on top.

This tea became a decent flavored tea to an insanely amazing treat. Perfect for those cold fall/winter nights that will soon be upon us here in the Midwest. Rich, decadent, sweet, with that heat that really resonates with you.

Simply delicious however you enjoy the tea!
