Taster’s Review:

I am usually a little put off by the prospect of trying a bagged and/or sacheted tea, because let’s face it, loose leaf is better.  It just is.  However, I do try to go into the experience of trying a new to me sacheted tea with an open mind.  And so far, the teas that I’ve tried from Eden Grove have been impressive – and all have been sacheted teas!  Eden Grove is definitely making a believer out of me.

This Lovers Leap Estate Indigo Black Tea with Essence of Peony from Eden Grove is quite nice.  The Ceylon is flavorful and smooth.  It has a very pleasing, even taste to it.  It’s sweet and has some malty tones to it, and I taste no bitterness whatsoever.  It’s good.

I taste hints of flower to this as well, and I presume that it is the peony essence that I’m tasting.  I can’t recall ever tasting peony in the past, so I don’t have a memory of what peony tastes like to be able to compare what I’m tasting now.  It is a sweet, gently floral taste.  It isn’t sharp, and it doesn’t have a perfume-y taste to it.  It’s an enjoyable flower essence.

Overall, a really nice cup of tea.  It’s a mellow tasting black tea, not one I’d want to start the day off with, but, one that I’d love to drink in the afternoon when I want a little bit of a pick-me-up to keep me going.  It’s good.

Taster’s Review:

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

OK … so this might not be a strawberries and chocolate or chocolate and roses or … any other romantic blend BUT it does have Lovers in the name of the tea.  Sure … that’s the name of the estate where the tea was grown … but it works for me.

This Lovers Leap Estate Indigo Black Tea from Eden Grove is quite nice.  When I opened the package, I could smell faint floral notes and earthiness.  The brewed tea has a fruit/floral/earthy sort of scent to it.  It brews up a dark coppery color.  And it tastes really good too!

I’ve got to say that I’ve been pretty happy with most of the teas that I’ve tried from Eden Grove so far.  This is a rich and satisfying Ceylon tea.  Yeah, “rich” is not a word that typically goes hand in hand with Ceylon black tea … but this has a pleasing richness to it.  There are even some malty tones to it!

I also taste notes of fruit and flower in each sip.  In the distance are notes of earth and even a leather-y sort of taste.  It is a medium-bodied tea with a moderate amount of astringency.  It has a nice sweetness to it that reminds me a little bit of a honeyed caramel.

And all of that from a sacheted tea!  Yeah, I’m stunned too.  I don’t usually expect a whole lot out of a sacheted tea, but, Eden Grove’s quality is starting to make a believer out of me.  sure, I’d still rather have loose leaf, but it’s nice to have the convenience of a tea bag when I’m traveling.  The gift package (shown above) is also something that would be lovely to give to a friend who is new to tea and doesn’t know what to do with loose leaf tea yet.  (We all gotta start someplace, you know?)

A really good tea.

Tasters Review:Lovers Leap Estate Indigo Black Tea from Eden Grove is a very strong black tea in a bag!  I have to say I have been quite impressed with the bagged teas from Edens Grove purely because of their strength!  Generally speaking…I’m a fan of Lovers Lane Black Teas, too!  As for this one from Edens Grove…it’s strong and bold…a nice eye opener…perfect for the rough mornings or a pick-me-up in the afternoon.

I can’t help but think of when I was a teenager…a friend of mine lived on a road called Lovers Lane.  I remember going over there to camp and we used to drink tea in the mornings – in a thermos – when it was still dewy and damp out.  I highly doubt it was “Lovers Leap” but for some reason every time I drink Lovers Leap now I think of the morning after camping and drinking tea by the fading campfire on Lovers Lane.

Ceylon Lovers Leap OP from Kally Tea

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Black

Where to Buy:  Kally Tea

Tea Description:

Sri Lanka, Nuwara Eliya region, February – March, 6000 to 8500 feet above sea level, cool nights, dry weather, sunny days, all combine to force the tea bush to expend its energies into the new growth giving the tea its best flavor. Lover’s Leap is named such as a traditional story that on this estate the tea is grown near a cliff that is said lovers threw themselves off the edge when they were not allowed to marry one another. We are confident that after enjoying the pleasures of this tea, such a drastic step would never enter your mind, quite the contrary… “Let’s brew another!”

Taster’s Review:

I really like this Ceylon.  It is rich and smooth and delicious.

It even has some malty tones to it.  In fact, had I not brewed this myself and just been served it without being told what it was, I might have guessed it was an Assam.  It has that rich, full-bodied taste I expect from an Assam, but without some of the harsher notes that I often experience with an Assam.  It’s kind of like the best of both worlds in one teacup!

This would make a fantastic breakfast tea as it takes the additions of milk and honey (or other sweetener of your choice) well.  It’s also quite delicious on its own – with no additions!  It’s remarkably smooth.  The aftertaste offers hints of fruit and a lovely sweetness.

Most Ceylon teas make a wonderful iced tea too, and this one is no exception!  Try it with thin slices of lemon or lime (or both!)

Taster’s Review:

I am going to take a leap and confess my love for this tea.

I’m actually giddy about this tea!  Not unusual for a tea to make me giddy, but it is rather unusual for a tea that does not contain chocolate or jasmine or bergamot to make me giddy this way.  And it is even more unusual for a tea that does contain chamomile to make me this excited.

But, then, that is the magic of Steven Smith.

The aroma of this tea is amazing.  It smells like roses.  Of course, over the last week or so I’ve reviewed quite a few rose teas, and all of those had a rose fragrance to them, but what makes this one different is the touch of citrus and how it melds with the rose tones so beautifully.  It gives the overall bouquet a freshness that is reminiscent of the aroma one would experience if they were to walk into a flower shop.  It’s that kind of fresh, beautiful scent that has me head over heels.

The black tea base is a Ceylon.  It is brisk and delicious.  It is smooth and well-rounded with a moderate astringency.  It is not an aggressive tea, it is mellow and on the lighter side … I’d categorize it as a medium-bodied tea.

The citrus is the most prominent flavor after the flavor of the Ceylon, and it nicely accents the natural citrus-y tones of the Ceylon tea very nicely.  The citrus is strong but it isn’t overwhelming, and it tastes like real fruit, not an artificial flavoring.

The rose is more of an accent flavor.  It is very mild – like a whisper of rose essence that wisps along the palate.  The chamomile is almost unnoticeable, but, every once in a while, my palate recognizes a insinuation of apple-like flavor.

I fall more in love with this tea with every sip!
