Glass Slipper from Nelson’s Tea

I had no idea what to expect when I pulled this tea out of my collection today. With a name like Glass Slipper, I expected something Cinderella-like and romantic…like berries or chocolate. The first thing I noticed was the blue cornflower speckled throughout the leaf. Then as I scooped it into my strainer, I saw the big chunks of almond mixed throughout. Now I didn’t expect much from the cornflower but the almond seemed promising.

Unfortunately, I find myself wanting more. More nuttiness. More flavor. The only thing I don’t need more of is rooibos since that is all I am tasting when I drink this particular tea. It’s a little bit woody and a hint sweet but there is not much else.

When I couldn’t pick out flavors by myself, I checked Nelson’s Tea’s website and saw that this is supposed to be an almond, cherry, and vanilla tea. With that in mind, I am even more disappointed. Knowing what flavors I should be tasting has me trying to pick them out in the tea. I feel like there should be more an amaretto quality to this but there just is not. I could maybe attribute the sweetness to the vanilla but I am simply doing that because I am being told I should get vanilla from this tea and not because I am actually tasting vanilla.

I have tried worse rooibos teas and as far as the base goes, it is actually quite nice. I just wish I got more from this tea than just the base. As it is now, the only connection I can make to the infamous Glass Slipper is that it seems half of this tea was left behind

 TeaEqualsBliss’s Review:

Oh!  Look!  It’s Really Root Beer from Nelson’s Tea!  This is an herbal tisane and I really like it!  If you have read my reviews in the past I am very persnickety about herbals.  To give you an idea of what this tastes like it’s basically a non-carbonated Root Beer flavor.  The aroma is what really smacks you in the face right off the bat but the flavor on the tongue isn’t too shabby either!

I have tried Really Root Beer from Nelson’s Tea piping hot but it makes me wonder what it would be like iced.  Based on what the package says – if you are doing it iced – you are to use double the amount and steep for 8 to 10 minutes and then pour over ice.  I’m betting it’s pretty solid!

I’m chalking up this Really Root Beer from Nelson’s Tea in my ‘herbals I enjoy’ cabinet!

Taster’s Review:

Vanilla Almond Black Tea from Nelson’s Tea is my first experience with one of their tea offerings and I must say I am impressed!  Vanilla flavored teas can be hit and miss due to the fake tasting vanilla flavors that are often used.  Almond flavored teas are often the same way for the same reason and/or can be a rough flavor preference to pin down and appease the masses!  I will say that Vanilla Almond Black Tea from Nelson’s Tea excels at BOTH the vanilla AND the almond flavors not only in ratio but being that true-taste that most of us tend to crave!

The aroma is pretty wonderful, too!  It’s sweet, nutty, and somewhat roasted to the nose but also provides that deep black tea aroma that I look for as well!

On the tongue – the black tea base, chunks of almond, and vanilla flavors all mesh well together.  The overall flavor is not overdone or underdone and that in itself makes this a special flavored black tea for me.  But your taste buds don’t lie!  The taste of this Vanilla Almond Black Tea from Nelson’s Tea certainly delivers, too, and completes the tea experience in your cup and in your mouth!
