Ovary-acting Remedy Review Roundup. . . .

There are just too many choices sometimes, which can make it difficult to find a quick fix. My body was super ovary-acting this week and I needed something to help me feel better, but I had three different tea bags that all purported the same benefits, what was I to do? A side-by-side comparison, of course!!

I brewed Traditional Medicinals  Raspberry Leaf, Yogi Women’s Moon Cycle, and Republic of Tea’s  SuperHerb Raspberry Leaf at the same time. They ALL include organic materials, yay!

They claim: Tones uterus to aid in effective contractions.  So when we think about toning other muscles … you’re using them in a stronger way, so don’t be surprised if it creates more intense sensations. That’s how it reacts for me, and if given the choice, I’d choose short but intense cramps rather than mild and long-lasting – just to get ’em over with. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Yogi’s Women’s Moon Cycle includes several different herbals, the most out of these three samples, and has a medium brew time of 7 minutes. This comes out as cloudy and copper-colored, smelling like a chai, mmmmmm. This has a light, spicy taste, and leaves nothing on the tongue when it finishes. I like this both with and without sweetener.

Republic of Tea’s Organic Raspberry Leaf SuperHerb Tea includes raspberry fruit flavor and rosehips. This had the quickest brew time at 5-7 minutes. It was VERY fruity smelling, making me feel a bit averse to it. Fortunately it had a lighter taste than it’s initial strong smell, but there’s a long aftertaste. And somehow I get a distinct banana taste! A little sweetener tones down the nanners, and wow this might be a nice addition to a smoothie!

Traditional Medicinals is the purist, with only red raspberry leaves inside. They recommend the longest brew time at 10-15 min, but that’s kind of standard for whole leaf tisanes. It’s brassy colored, and smells like a black tea, but with none of the caffeine. This simple flavor would be good if you were feeling nausea. Anecdotally, when I was pregnant, I had doctor’s approval to drink some of this during my third trimester and I went into a nice short 12 hour labor right on my due date! But that could have been from eating dates, or prenatal massage, or typhoon approaching, or Murphy’s law with our schedule, or that I’m Wonder Woman, or just plain dumb luck……. Anyhow, this was my personal favorite of the three.

Each tea offers its own perks, depending on what your personal comfort medicine is, each could be a nice fix.

Carrot Cake Cupcake Green Rooibos from Simpson & Vail

Tisane Information:

Leaf Type:  Rooibos

Where to Buy:  Simpson & Vail

Tisane Description:

The latest addition to our popular dessert teas are these cupcake teas! Available in Red Velvet Cupcake, Carrot Cake Cupcake and Strawberry Cupcake.

I love carrot cake, whether it’s in a loaf or in cupcake form. What I don’t like is that “some” people always feel the need to add raisins to what is already perfection. Don’t mess with success people! And what I do like about this rooibos tea version, is that you get all that lovely carrot cake goodness with none of the calories (and no wrinkled little grapes!). The dry leaf has a delicate aroma of carrot cake spices. The brewed cup is full flavored and fabulous with the smell of just baked carrot cake.

Taster’s Review:

Simpson & Vail has an all-new line of cupcake inspired teas that they’ve added to their dessert tea collection, and I’m so excited to be able to try some of them, because I not only love tea, but I adore cupcakes, too.  These cupcake teas let me enjoy them both without all the calories!

But I have to admit I was a little skeptical about the idea of this carrot cake cupcake rooibos.  I have tasted some cupcake flavored teas in the past, and even a couple of carrot cake flavored teas … but, I still find myself a bit leery about them … carrot taste … in tea?  That might be a little too weird, even for me.

However, this is really tasty!  I taste notes of cinnamon along with a hint of fruit as well as the carrot taste.  The carrot is sweet, and melds really nicely with the green rooibos which has a lighter, fruitier taste versus the red (oxidized) rooibos.  I think the green rooibos was the right choice to use as a base here, because the fruity notes seem to tie in with the carrot-cake-like flavors.

The sweetness of this cup seems to lend a sort of cake and frosting kind of taste to the overall taste.  I don’t know that I’m tasting a definitive “carrot cake” kind of flavor here – but, then again, I don’t know that I’m not.  I just know that as I sip and I taste the medley of flavors and how they work together, my taste buds get a sense that I’m drinking liquified carrot cake.

This is really yummy, and it’s an ideal way to enjoy carrot cake without indulging in the calories!

BREWING INSTRUCTIONS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Use 1 teaspoon per cup.
There are many ways to use loose leaf tea.
1. In a teaball
2. In a french press
3. In a pot and use a hand strainer when pouring into cup
4. In a loose leaf tea bag
5. Pour over a coffee filter. The only mission is to strain the leaf from the water before serving. It’s that simple!
Rooibos is a hardy leaf and is usually brewed in a full boil, however, due to the herbs in this blend, it is best brewed about 190-200 degrees. Depending on strength desired, you can steep anywhere from a few seconds to a couple mins. Rooibos is naturally sweet and usually does not need sweetener. However, Rooibos is excellent with milk, cream and a little honey!
Tasters Review:
Yesterday I tried LEMONADE from Jar of Tea and LOVED it.
I know I am getting straight to the point with this review and not building up to my conclusion like I usually try to do but this Flavored Green Rooibos gets straight to the point as well – so it’s only fitting.
If you like LEMON you will like this tisane.  If you like LEMONADE please TRY this flavored green rooibos!
The green rooibos background seems to fit the bill with the other lemony flavors here and it makes for an awesomely sweet lemonade taste.  I’m sure this would be wonderful iced but let’s just say it didn’t make it that far.  It was so yummy it didn’t stay in the cup long.
I will say I LOVE the way the way the jars and labels are decorated from Jar of Tea (even if some tea lovers argue glass isn’t their preferred way of storing or the safest long term storage method).  But if you are a fan of different label and packaging or giving as a gift or have a cool/dry/dark place to display this jar – or if you are like me and don’t think it will last very long on your shelf because it’s so darned yummy you can’t resist it – you are going to want to check this one out!
Jar of Tea’s website is lovely and their customer service is top-notch!  They have a creative selection of tea and tisanes and for that I am truly thankful.
