Malty Biscuit Brew/Yorkshire Tea

Hello, my dear tea lovers. I will admit that I spend way too much time online looking for new teas to try. I almost have a mountain of teas but somehow I obtain more. And this time on my search I have found a very interesting blend, a blend that mimics the indulgent practice of biscuits and tea by Yorkshire Tea.

Now I want to say that this brew has no actual biscuit in it for the biscuit flavor comes from the natural vanilla that they use in combination with a blend of black teas. The vanilla that they use is of the nutty variety and it does actually taste like I have eaten it with a biscuit! It is nice and comforting without having too much of the vanilla flavoring (it only makes up 3% of this blend) to the point where it is just a hint of “biscuit” flavor.

Now sadly, this brew isn’t sold in American markets all that often so the easiest way is to get this brew from Amazon and I got a 40 count box for about $7. Now keep in mind, this seems to be a UK exclusive so if you do decide to order, you will have to wait a bit because of overseas shipping. But mine (I ordered from the Amazon seller Spellbound from England) came nicely packed and the box is brand new and has a best by date of 08/2020 though I doubt it will last till then.

If you want the tea and biscuit experience on the go I say this is a great option! It is warm and cozy and even if you are not the biggest fan of vanilla, like myself, I am sure you will enjoy it. It is also versatile as well for you can have it with milk for more of a biscuit-like flavor or without. So if you are after a cup of cozy but don’t have the biscuit or you are on the go I fully recommend this tea!

See you for the next cuppa!

Madagascar Vanilla/Golden Moon

When you have a rare, quiet morning to yourself, what tea do you choose to be your companion? Golden Moon’s Madagascar Vanilla is my choice today because I need something that has the chops to follow up waffles and maple syrup.

This vanilla can’t go wrong, with the vanilla taste coming from real Madagascar bourbon vanilla beans and not some mysterious dark liquid that knows beakers better than plants.

I am usually very sensitive digestion-wise to teas that are not from China, but this Indian base sits right with me. It has hearty breakfast tea flavor without the gut twisting bitterness that demands milk to tame it and sugar to tone it down. It has the light, tongue scraping sensation of gentle briskness and a touch of malt. I happily drink this sans additions.

This is vanilla tea for grownups, not a kiddie vanilla. I serve it morning and afternoon, because it does hold up well with a meal or with rich sweets. It is also a good fortifying cup. The hearty base makes it so versatile.

I can’t help but be impressed when I look at their website and see the pains they have taken to assure that the tea that comes to us is as pure as they can possibly make it. But it has to taste good, too! And this one definitely does.

Description

There’s vanilla, and then there is vanilla. Sometimes “vanilla” is poured out of a small, dark bottle into your favorite boxed cake mix. That stuff is like that “iPod” you bought in Chinatown. Sure it may work, but it really isn’t the same. Our vanilla is straight from the vanilla bean. Not just any bean, but the world famous bourbon vanilla bean found in Madagascar. We chop up the beans, blend them with a pure, organic Indian tea base and let it age for over a month. Why? Because Madagascar Vanilla ends up having a fully infused, rich flavor with no weird chemical aftertaste. Sure it is a lot of trouble for us to make this tea, but it’s well worth it.

Timid Red from Tea Taxi. . . .

Tea Taxi is one of those tea companies I hear about all the time, but I’m not sure I’ve ever tried. They have a bunch of fun looking mixes, complete with sprinkles and cute names.

Today’s pick was Timid Red, which I mostly reached for because there are little red hearts in it. Cute! In addition to the tea, this mix rocks “Candy (sugar, cornstarch, cellulose gum), natural flavors, sunflower, safflower, [and] calendula.” CANDY AS THE FIRST INGREDIENT?

The flavor itself is mostly vanilla with a kick of grenadine and a very light floral note.

It’s a savory and sweet mix that’s pretty strong, which I love. (Watery tea is the bane of my existence.) I’m not sure why it’s called “Timid Red,” since it’s fairly bold. Maybe the vanilla is supposed to be sweet (ergo timid)?

I disagree with this assessment. I think that this red is a go-getter. It’s SASSY.

The only beef I have with this tea is the company’s slightly confusing branding system. On the sample-size bag, each type of tea comes with an animal symbol instead of one universal Tea Taxi symbol. So my sample came with a stag and “Rouge Timide” on the front, and I had to Google what it was and work my way backwards. I don’t think that the full-size bags have that issue, thankfully.

If you’re reading this, Tea Taxi friends: j’adore votre thé, mais votre emballage est confusant. Merci pour votre temps.

Monk’s Blend from Steeped Tea. . . .

POP QUIZ: What kind of tea do you think a monk would drink?

NO CHEATING. Think carefully about your answer.

Okay.

Ready?

Did you guess black tea with vanilla and grenadine?

If you didn’t, you failed, and it goes straight on your permanent record. That’s okay. I failed, too. I imagined it would probably be some kind of green tea before it arrived.

This is a really sweet and delicious blend. If this is what monks were having, it’s a more pleasant experience than I could have imagined. Then again, there are monks that specialize in training dogs , so it’s possible I’ve underestimated them again!

I always love vanilla, all the time, and the grenadine makes it very delicious and zingy. Plus, as always, black tea is my favorite.

SECOND POP QUIZ: Are you ready to redeem yourself?

Okay: what is grenadine supposed to taste like?

If you, like my husband, promptly said “cherry,” you’re wrong.

Although restaurants occasionally put grenadine in Coke to make it taste like Cherry Coke, the answer is actually pomegranate.

MAN, this is an educational post. You are so much richer for the experience.

If you’re interested in this tea, head on over to Steeped Tea and find your local seller! (It’s a bit like LuLaRoe or Mary Kay, I think, structurally). Though it’s a Canadian company, there are consultants in the United States, too. They’re ready to help you find your inner monk.

Vanilla Mint from Golden Moon. . . .

Vanilla and mint teas are an awesome combination. There are so many options out there and typically they utilize peppermint to mix with a vanilla black tea. Vanilla Mint by Golden Moon Tea is a little different since they use a black/green base with vanilla bean and spearmint.

I brewed this as a latte because vanilla mint lattes are awesome. This is no exception. The creaminess of the milk brings out the silky vanilla bean flavor. That makes it the flavor you notice first, though it slowly melts to a clear mint flavor. The mint lingers in the aftertaste and leaves you with a bright and fresh feeling. The base teas act as a solid foundation for the flavoring but don’t impart much of a taste themselves.

This is a nice take on a vanilla mint tea. At the end of the day it is not so different from other interpretations that I need to go out of my way to get it over other variations. However, it made for a nice latte this morning and at the end of the day, that’s all I could ask for.

While this combination of flavors seems a bit out of the ordinary, trust us when we say it just works. In fact, this tea was invented when our Owner was on a “business trip” to Vienna, Austria. After having a really rough day of going to the Vienna Opera House, he stopped by a café for some of their renowned apple tarts with a thick vanilla cream called shlag. Noticing that the locals add the cream to their coffee, he decided to do the same to the mint tea he was drinking. And guess what? It was delicious. The creamy vanilla tempered the sharp mint and the two flavors melded almost perfectly. So, this is our version of this Viennese combination that is rich, sweet, and utterly refreshing.
