Taster’s Review:

This is a really tasty chai.

The black tea base is a robust blend of black teas.  It provides a strong taste which stands up well to the strength of the spices in this tea.  I don’t taste any bitterness to this cup, although there is a fair amount of astringency.

I am tasting a licorice-y kind of taste in the foreground, so I suspect that there is either licorice root or perhaps star anise in this blend.  The other spices that are notable are the cardamom and cinnamon.  I don’t taste much ginger in this blend.  I would categorize this spice blend as a warm but not spicy-hot.  The strong licorice tone to these give it more of a sweet, slightly sharp taste over the usual peppery ginger chai that I often drink.

That is not to say that one is better than the other, it is merely intended to point out the differences this chai offers.  I like spicy-hot chai blends, but I also am quite fond of licorice so this tea appeals to me too.

I drank this tea with just a spoonful of turbinado sugar, but I suspect that this would also make a very yummy latte.  Since it’s summer – try blending a strong concentration of the chai with some ice cubes and milk for a iced chai latte.  Or better still – serve the concentrated chai warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream and let the ice cream cool it!  YUM!
