Storehouse Teas – Page 3

Cinnamon Plum Berry Organic Botanical Blend from Storehouse Tea. . . .

Storehouse Tea is a company completely new to me. I had never even heard of this company until a box of Sororitea Sisters samples arrived at my door including this tea, Cinnamon Plum Berry.

Full disclosure: Even though I am excited to try a new tea company, I am a little apprehensive about this tea. Between the deep reddish-pink it brewed up that screams hibiscus and the licorice root, I was worried this would definitely not be to my tastes.

Using the sample I was given, I decided to make it both iced and hot to compare the two.

I started with the hot cup because this is how Storehouse Tea recommends brewing this up. Unfortunately, this tea hot is sort of what I expected. The main flavor is the hibiscus, tart and one-note. The cinnamon is floating around too combining with the licorice root to contribute a outputting sweet note. The licorice root also lingers on the tongue in the aftertaste, cloying.

Iced this is a little bit different than the hot cup, though neither better nor worse. Just different. Less tart and the hibiscus could hint a little more towards berry than it does in the hot cup, though I would say that is still a stretch. The cinnamon is missing all together in the iced tea, except in smell. On the plus side, there is not as much licorice root either.

If I had to decide, I would say that I found this easier to drink when iced. Neither really delivery the plum or berry as promised by the name so that is disappointing. Ultimately, I went into this tea with some expectations based on the ingredients and perhaps I was biased but having tried it, I would say this tea is certainly not for me.

Indian Masala Chai from Storehouse Tea. . . .

Indian Masala Chai. I have had a number of them. But Indian Masala Chai from Storehouse Tea is something to put on your most beloved tea shelf! It’s not TOO spicy but the spice seems JUST RIGHT for my palate and perhaps for yours, too! There is a certain amount of SMOOTHNESS that comes along with this one, too! Mysterious but NOT unheard of. It’s ALMOST like it has a HINT of vanilla or cream in there but it doesn’t!

As a matter of fact the ingredients in this loose leaf chai include Fair Trade Organic black tea leaves, Organic green cardamom, and Organic cinnamon, Organic ginger, and Organic clove, Organic whole pod cardamom and Organic Black Pepper.

I’m not sure how they did it but they did! There is that bit of smoothness – or creaminess – that helps round everything out in this chai! It’s a glorious thing, really!

Storehouse Tea says their Indian Masala Chai is a robust and classic full flavored black tea blended with traditional whole Indian Masala spices, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and clove. They also say this tea is bold and stimulating. I would agree!

Finally they say that Masala Chai should be brewed strong and served sweet with milk when hot or pour it over ice as a chilled Chai tea latte. This is where I differ. But that is the beauty of tea. We have choices – differences – preferences – favorites – habits – and ways of doing things that make it our own. I, for one, had this chai straight-up with nothing added and loved it just as much as the next person! I raise my cup to you – Storehouse Teas! Another fantastic offering!

Vanilla Bean from Storehouse Teas. . . . . .

I love vanilla in teas. I feel like if I was a tea-blender, i’d probably add a dash of vanilla to just about everything. I feel like it just gives this yummy warmth and sweetness to the blends and it also goes well with just about everything else! There is a difference between regular old “vanilla” and “vanilla bean”. Vanilla bean, in my experience, tends to be just a tad bit stronger and richer. When I saw this one in my little sample box I immediately scanned the ingredient list. I was wondering whether this would just be plain vanilla flavored tea or if maybe they added a little something-something to it. Well, I saw rose petals on there and I immediately thought to myself “okay, okay this is probably going to be good.”

And yes, it was good. I was right! Definite yum. I liked this blend so much that i transferred it from my tea-tasting cup to my good cup immediately! (it’s all about the mugs, people) I could smell the vanilla bean filling my kitchen and it smelled like cupcakes. The black tea was really mellow and smooth, not overpowering or astringent. The rose petals were not too floral or in-your-face, they were also very mellow and just added a little something on the aftertaste.

This blend was creamy, and I didn’t even add milk or cream to my cup. I did, however, add a spoonful of agave, and that just made it all the more better. I feel like this was cake in a mug. Vanilla cake speckled with rose and calendula petals. So, so, good. I will for sure be finishing my sample and buying some more. This is a perfect tea for mornings and afternoon tea time. I really suggest trying it if you like vanilla.

Hand Blended Almond Flavored Green Tea Treat from Storehouse Tea. . . .

I have tried a lot of teas that are named some variation of sweet almond. It is always a green tea, but they all do not taste the same. Some are very much like marzipan, others are more so the taste of green tea. This one, by Storehouse Teas, is more the latter than the former. Which is good, sometimes you don’t want that overly sweet marzipan taste!

The smell of this sweet almond tea is most definitely sweet almond with slight marzipan. I added just a tad of agave though because on taste, it was not as sweet as it smells. It actually was a really decent green tea, with a prominent green tea taste. Much less marzipan that I would have expected. So, if you’re not usually a fan of marzipan but you want a sweet almond tea, you would enjoy this one.

This definitely has nutty undertones, and they blend really well with the cool and crisp vegetal flavor of the green tea. Its very light, very smooth, and does really well with an addition of addition of agave. The rose petals also add a floral tone that blends well with the other components. I think this is one of my favorite sweet almond green teas that I’ve tried! I really like how its light. I don’t always like when the flavor is light, though, but with this it really works. I would recommend trying if you like green tea!
