A Perfect Tea for the Holidays! Old Fashioned Spice Cake from The NecessiTeas

With the upcoming holiday season upon us, taking a moment to reflect, relax, and enjoy those moments around us become even more important. What better way to reflect, relax, and enjoy those moments than with a lovely cuppa!

Old Fashioned Spice Cake from The NecessiTeas was a tea I was a bit wary of. Mainly because I am not a huge spiced tea fan. But, I prepped my water and set to getting myself a cuppa. So far every tea I’ve had from The NecessiTeas has made my taste buds dance. (The hand blended offerings from The NecessiTeas are simply amazing and if you haven’t tried their tea yet, do yourself a favor and pick up a blend or two. You wont’ be disappointed!) If anyone was going to make me enjoy a spiced tea, it would be them.

Right off of the bat, this tea’s dry leaves have a wonderful holiday like aroma. Almost like when you go home for the holidays and walk into the kitchen and a family member has been baking desserts all day long.  My tea couldn’t steep fast enough. And  remember, this is from someone who doesn’t care for most of the ingredients in this tea.

First sip, my taste buds did a happy dance. Simply delicious. Almond and cinnamon notes are the most prominent and together they provide that baked cake flavor. The ginger is very subtle and the cocoa provides that smooth lush profile. The rest of the spices give that holiday feel that you really pick up as towards the end of the sip. So many flavors. Such a gorgeous and well balanced tea.

This tea is one that you need to brew up huge tea pots full, crack open the tea cups and saucers, and enjoy with family members all around. Creating memories with loved ones is what this tea is all about!

Taster’s Review:

If you haven’t checked out A Quarter To Tea, I implore you to do so. A Quarter to Tea offers fresh gorgeous unique blends that make you crave more. And Coconut Carrot Cashew is no exception.

Coconut Carrot Cashew is an very unique and odd blend. Who would have thought that these three flavors would work together. But I have to say, they do brilliantly!

Let’s start with the ingredients in this blend. First whiff of this package and you get the sugar coconut noes right off the bat.  There is that good ol fashioned black tea fragrance that just makes ones heart happy.

Per the brewing suggestions, I steeped this blend for 4 minutes with water prepped at 200F.  Once the timer went off letting me know the tea was ready, I did allow the tea to cool for a moment or two. I was eager to try this delight!

First sip in and I am in LOVE. I have to say this tea has it all.

Gorgeous sweet almost sugary notes of coconut envelope the entire sip. The perfect amount of sweet to contrast with the subtle yet vibrant malty and astringent black tea base.  The carrot and cashew tones finish up perfectly with a carrot cake like finish. During each sip, you could almost imagine a lush decadent carrot cake with icing piled high.

I have tried several different dessert teas and several blends boasting that they taste like carrot cake. I have never tasted a tea that tasted more like a carrot cake than this one. Initially I was worried that the coconut in the blend would take over since the flakes are quite large, but that wasn’t the case. The coconut brought this tea to a whole new level completing that baked good note that A Quarter To Tea has captured.

So what I’m trying to say is yeah. . .this tea is good. . . . very good. . . Brilliant actually!

Taster’s Review:

I will admit it right off the bat. I have tried to play Portal and I was absolutely awful at it. To the point where my kiddos were like “It’s ok Mommy, you are good at other things.”  I used to think I was good at video games, guess that just isn’t the case anymore.  In that moment, I knew I was old. (ha!)

Geeky Teas is one of my favorite tea shops.  They produce fun unique handed blended teas that scream with personality and of course I love the idea that they are based on fandoms.  The Cake Is A Lie blend is a mix of black tea, vanilla flavorings, candy sprinkles, creme flavor, and caramel flavor.  Just take a whiff of the dry leaf mix and you can smell each and ever one of those ingredients.  The dry leaf smells simply divine.  One of those teas that you feel like you are gaining weight just by smelling the tea.

Brewed up with freshly prepped boiling water, I allowed this tea to steep for about 4 minutes. I waited a few moments to let the tea cool and took my first sip.  Oh my Goodness! This tea isn’t just good. It’s brilliant! This tea is the king of dessert teas! The black tea is the silent base that is giving the flavors to be the star.  The creme and the caramel are the flavors you really get along with a chocolate note here and there.  The flavors all combined really doesn’t taste like a chocolate cake. I have tried so many different teas that say they taste like cake, this one really does!

This may be the best tea I have tried yet from Geeky Teas. I see a large pouch of this blend in my future!
