Almond Papaya/Dollar Tea Club -Just Tea-Zen

This tea smells so delicious when you open the package! Even though I associate papaya with summer weather and tropical vibes, this tea has such a warm aroma. It’s totally acceptable as a Fall tea!

This tea reminds me of trail mix. The aroma and flavor have that nutty-fruity flavor combo that you find in a good quality trail mix with the big chunks of dried fruit. I do love a good trail mix!

Not every flavor blends will with rooibos, but this one is perfectly balanced. Rooibos has a mild sweetness and a slight nutty flavor with just a hint of vanilla; all perfect flavors to blend with almond and papaya.

If you haven’t checked out Dollar Tea Club, give them a try. It’s a convenient and inexpensive way to explore the world of tea and try new tea types and flavors. Watch for upcoming reviews on a couple of their other blends!

Eggnog Europa / Dollar Tea Club

Eggnog is the last thing I think of when I look for tea flavors.

Used to hate eggnog but the dairy free versions of it have grown on me in the past few years. The dry leaf aroma is pleasantly surprising.  It really does smell like eggnog.

Creamy, spicy, with a hint of earthiness. Same with the flavor.

A creamy mouth feel. It hits you with the same flavors as depth as eggnog with only slightly less creaminess than the real thing. The spices are perfect.

Too much more and you would have a chai, too little and it would be weak. This is a perfectly blended tea.

Lemongrass Oolong / The Tea Club

In the world of tea and tisane,  there are some ingredients used that are overpowering. One of these is lemongrass. This tea is a perfect example, in taste and aroma, of how careful a tea blender must be in combining their ingredients.

The lemongrass is all that can be smelled, good thing it’s a calming scent.

Whoever blended this tea did a wonderful job. At first I wasn’t impressed All the flavor was lemongrass.

Even the after taste was lemongrass. Don’t get me wrong it’s a gentle flavor that can easily be enjoyed but what I really wanted was to taste the oolong. With a bit more steep time the uniqueness of this tea came forth. It is very apparent that whoever blended this tea has taken a class or five on tea blending. The oolong may be the main ingredient but in this case it aids the lemongrass. The floral, citrus, and tropical notes are subtly amplified.

The only thing I’m not really fond of in this tea is the pineapple pieces. They add a unique tropical tone to the tea but because of this the aftertaste is a bit artificial.

Chocolate Orange / The Tea Club

Let us start off the new year with something different. Chocolate and orange tend to blend deliciously on their own but I am hesitant to even begin to think of what it will taste like in tea. This was apart of the The Tea Clubs $1 month deal back in December.

After ripping open the packet you are quickly hit with chocolaty notes. Stick your nose in the bag and an outstanding aroma of sweet, smooth chocolate and and tangy orange fills your nostrils. One should also point out too that this is not an artificial orange smell but that of fresh oranges. The aroma could be talked about all day so let’s move on quickly to the flavor. It brews up as a semi-cloudy amber. A dirty black tea if you will.

The flavor of the chocolate and the orange are quite a bit more subtle then they were in the aroma. Pu-erh, because of its earthiness, can be hard to blend with. Though I am enjoying this tea because you can definitely taste the pu’erh instead of it being masked like many flavored teas do to their base. With each sip there is something new to discover. Sometimes the orange is distinct but most of the time it’s the base that stands out. The chocolate creeps up and then disappears before the liquid slips down your throat.
