Taster’s Review:

What I’m enjoying most with the teas that I’ve received in this Eden Grove Prism Collection is that many of these blends are very unusual.  Take this Whole Leaf Green Tea with Essence of Lemongrass & Chrysanthemum from Eden Grove for example.  This isn’t a blend that I’d probably find just anywhere.

Oh sure, I’ve tried many lemongrass blends, and a few teas with Chrysanthemum … but a tea that focuses only on these two essences?  No, I can’t say that I’ve found a tea quite like this one before.

And I’m enjoying this.  I can’t say that I’ll be out there looking for another Lemongrass and Chrysanthemum blend because I probably won’t.  But if I do happen to find one, I wouldn’t be opposed to trying it.  I like the light citrus-y note from the lemongrass and the soft floral notes of the chrysanthemum.

The green tea is a sweet and slightly grassy tasting tea, and I think that the natural buttery taste of the green tea accentuates the light buttery taste of the lemongrass.  It makes for a pleasant taste and texture.  The lemongrass has a sweet citrus taste that is reminiscent of lemon and lime, but without the pucker-y sour notes of the fruits.

The chrysanthemum is a very subtle taste with just a hint of floral taste that contrasts nicely with the tea and lemongrass.

Overall, it’s a pleasant cuppa.  I enjoyed about half of my cup while it was still hot, and then I was distracted by other things, and came back to my cup and it was cold.  I was surprised to find how tasty it is cold – this would make a really nice iced tea!

Taster’s Review:

This After 8 Tea Tisane from Eden Grove is one of the more unusual teas I’ve come across in my ongoing tea journey!  It has a lot going on … but I’m happy to say that the flavors work together in a pleasing way.

I brewed this at a lower temperature to accommodate for the green tea (180°), and steeped it slightly longer (3 1/2 minutes) to ensure that I could get a lot of flavor from the black tea and the herbals in this blend.

The result is a very unusual yet flavorful blend of flower and mint, with an earthy, sweet background.  I taste both the black and green teas here.  The black tea is not as full-bodied as I would probably have achieved if I brewed the tea at a higher temperature, although if I had, I don’t know that I would be tasting the sweet, buttery notes of the green tea that I am able to taste now.  I think that the delicate notes of the green tea would have been lost if the black tea were a stronger, more developed flavor.

The mint is not overpowering, but it is a dominate flavor profile in this cup.  It tastes crisp and cool without tasting like someone added a splash of mouthwash to my cup of tea.  I taste light pineapple notes, and I’m happy that the hibiscus here is more of a “tart” flavor rather than a profound note.

That little bit of tart flavor from the hibiscus highlights the pineapple and accents some of the sharper notes of the floral flavors of rose and jasmine.  I taste more rose than I do jasmine.  The jasmine is a soft, exotic note and is not quite a fully realized jasmine flavor, while the rose is a sweet, slightly sharp, distinct rose taste, albeit delicate.

Overall, I found this blend intriguing.  It is quite different from anything that I’ve tasted before, and I like that.  I like that this is a little out of the box … but not so “out there” that I found it too bizarre to enjoy.

Taster’s Review:

I am always initially leery of any tisane that boasts hibiscus as the first ingredient in its ingredient list.  So, it should come as no surprise to you that when I was offered this Citron Tisane from Eden Grove to try, I was not as excited as I was to try some of the other teas from Eden Grove.  (I especially enjoyed their Lovers Leap Estate Indigo Black Tea!)

But, I have been surprised in the past by teas that I was originally skeptical of, and so I decided to give this Citron blend a try.  And I’m really glad I did.  It might not be my favorite cup of tea from Eden Grove, but, it’s tasty!

Even though the hibiscus is the first ingredient in the list, there is relatively little hibiscus in this.  A quick glance through the silky pyramid sachet tells me that the primary ingredient in it is lemongrass.  And I like lemongrass.  I only saw maybe a couple of hibiscus pieces.

After steeping in 195°F water for five minutes, this tisane brews up a golden color (not pink – another suggestion that there isn’t too much hibiscus in this!) and the texture is smooth – not thick or syrupy.  All of the sudden, I feel much better about sampling this tisane!

And it’s pretty good.  The flavor (not surprisingly) is citrus-y.  I taste a tart note from the hibiscus (but again, this is not an overpowering presence of hibiscus), and that tartness accentuates the tart notes of the lemon and lime.  There is a sweetness from these two citrus fruits as well as a sweet hint of orange with just a hint of bitter from the orange pith.  I also am tasting a smooth, buttery note from the lemongrass, and a sweet apple note.

Overall, this is a bright and enjoyable tisane to enjoy any time of the day. The sunny flavor of the citrus makes it a good choice for earlier in the day, but it’s also an agreeable tisane for later in the evening when I’m looking for something caffeine free.  It would also be nice to brew up and chill for something cool and refreshing.

Taster’s Review:

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

OK … so this might not be a strawberries and chocolate or chocolate and roses or … any other romantic blend BUT it does have Lovers in the name of the tea.  Sure … that’s the name of the estate where the tea was grown … but it works for me.

This Lovers Leap Estate Indigo Black Tea from Eden Grove is quite nice.  When I opened the package, I could smell faint floral notes and earthiness.  The brewed tea has a fruit/floral/earthy sort of scent to it.  It brews up a dark coppery color.  And it tastes really good too!

I’ve got to say that I’ve been pretty happy with most of the teas that I’ve tried from Eden Grove so far.  This is a rich and satisfying Ceylon tea.  Yeah, “rich” is not a word that typically goes hand in hand with Ceylon black tea … but this has a pleasing richness to it.  There are even some malty tones to it!

I also taste notes of fruit and flower in each sip.  In the distance are notes of earth and even a leather-y sort of taste.  It is a medium-bodied tea with a moderate amount of astringency.  It has a nice sweetness to it that reminds me a little bit of a honeyed caramel.

And all of that from a sacheted tea!  Yeah, I’m stunned too.  I don’t usually expect a whole lot out of a sacheted tea, but, Eden Grove’s quality is starting to make a believer out of me.  sure, I’d still rather have loose leaf, but it’s nice to have the convenience of a tea bag when I’m traveling.  The gift package (shown above) is also something that would be lovely to give to a friend who is new to tea and doesn’t know what to do with loose leaf tea yet.  (We all gotta start someplace, you know?)

A really good tea.

Taster’s Review:

I didn’t have high hopes for this Sea Breeze Tisane from Eden Grove.  When a tisane sports hibiscus as its primary ingredient, that doesn’t sound promising to me.

But this isn’t too bad.  I brewed it for just 5 minutes in 195°F water.  Usually when I brew a tisane with hibiscus, I keep the steep time to 5 or 6 minutes to keep the hibiscus from overpowering the cup.  When hibiscus steeps too long, I find the resulting liquid to be too tart and too thick and syrupy.  Fortunately, at five minutes, this tea does not taste too tart, nor is it too thick or syrupy.

I do taste the hibiscus, but I can taste other flavors too!  I taste the cinnamon, cloves and cardamom. I like these spice notes.  They offer a wonderful contrast to the sweet notes of the fruity notes.  There are notes of mango, papaya, orange and pineapple!  I taste notes of mango and pineapple mostly, but I can also taste hints of citrus as well as papaya.

I still find myself wishing the hibiscus wasn’t there, because the tartness of the hibiscus is still strong here, even with the short steep time.  I like this alright, but, it hasn’t been my favorite tea that I’ve tasted thus far from Eden Grove.
