EggnogTea Information:

Tea Description:

The mellow green teas in this blend are the perfect base for a light version of a glass of eggnog and praline cookies. This tea is creamy, sweet, light and refreshing all at the sametime. Lightly roasted pecans mingle with the vegetal note of the green tea that we are glad wasn’t covered up. Dare we say it – this tea tastes just fantastic sweetened up.

Taster’s Review:

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE that Amoda Tea treated their subscribers with three unique Butiki Teas for their Christmas tea box?  Every month, Amoda Tea sends me an exciting collection of three tea samples, and I’m very happy to receive each and every box – some boxes are more thrilling than others! – but this box just may be my favorite thus far.

And that’s because all three teas in this box are not only from one of my favorite tea companies – Butiki Teas – but each of the teas have been created exclusively for Amoda Tea for this box.  You can’t get these teas anywhere else!  How seriously awesome is that?

This Eggnog & Pralines Green Tea Blend from Butiki Teas is the second tea in my special Holiday box that I’m trying.  And it’s amazingly good.  That, of course, comes as no surprise, because Butiki Teas blends their teas to please the palate – and they succeed every time.  I can’t recall a time when I’ve been really disappointed by a tea from them.  Again, some teas are better than others, but even those that are not my favorites, I can usually find something worthwhile to enjoy about those teas.

The green teas used in this blend are organic Mao Jian and Glenburn Estate green teas.  The flavor of the green tea shines through nicely here, with notes of sweetness and a slight vegetal tone.  There is a buttery note that melds harmoniously with the eggnog notes.  Very creamy!

The flavors add a hint of custard-y flavor that’s sweet and luscious.  The praline notes are a little less distinct, but they’re there and just as the description suggests, it’s a little “cookie-ish.”  I drank this tea with just a little bit of turbinado sugar to pump up the volume of the flavors.  It’s delicious without the sweetener, but, with a half a teaspoon of raw sugar, the notes of praline really POP!

With this tea, you don’t need to leave milk and cookies out for Santa – just a cup of this tea!  It’s a perfect treat!

Taster’s Review:

When I want something really frothy and creamy, Eggnog Matcha from Red Leaf Tea fits the bill!

So I am trying to slim down my matcha stash, not because I want to get rid of it, but rather I want to order some of the awesome new flavors that Red Leaf Tea has! So I looked over my matcha stash and saw this Eggnog Matcha sitting there beckoning me. I decided that it was what I was craving! Thick, creamy, very frothy, and heavy in the mouthfeel. It reminds me of custard, just like the description says. I like making mine with vanilla almond milk to give it a bit of a sweeter taste, but the flavors are dead on for Eggnog, and who says that it has to be the holidays to enjoy eggnog? Not me that’s for sure.

I like my flavored matcha from Red Leaf Tea cold, or made into an iced latte personally, and I have only had eggnog served cold as well, so it makes sense to me to prepare it cold.

There is a distinct vanilla flavor to eggnog, but also a slight nod toward nutmeg as well. What I really love about this flavor is that the matcha flavor is not lost in the blend. I can taste all of the matcha goodness here too! I would suggest you consider ordering the robust or at least distinctive blend in this specific flavor because it is not as strong as some of the other Red Leaf Tea flavor options. That is not to say you can’t taste the Eggnog flavor, you can, but if you really want that punch in the face flavor you need to at least go with Robust. When I order this flavor again it will be in the “There’s Matcha In There?” option.

I have enough of this left to do one more thing with it that I have been dying to do, and that is make an Eggnog Shake with it! This is one of those flavors that is a must try with ice cream!

Taster’s Review:

Eggnog from Trail Lodge Tea has a distinct aroma of spices and custard when steeped. From the visual aspect, white tea, is my favorite tea. The dry leaf is beautiful, downy, and whole.

The cup steeps to a golden yellow and is clear.

Trail Lodge Teas are organic and Fair Trade Certified which is always a plus in my book!

The flavor is quite creamy, but the spiced notes do not come out in the taste as much as in the aroma. There is a nutmeg spice in the flavor, its not strong, but there is enough. In the aroma I get more of the clove spice as well.

There is a lacking in the sweetness for me personally, yet I did not try it with any added sugar, so I can’t say if that would have helped or not.

I keep looking for the white or green tea base flavor to jump out at me because it is not as if the spice or other flavorings are overdone, and I do get a touch of vanilla in the flavor, yet I keep straining to find the base tea. I get a tad more of the green base than the white, but I think I would enjoy the tea more if the base were a bit more outstanding.

Overall this is a good eggnog blend and it does indeed taste like eggnog. Its creamy, and it has the right flavors with the spice and vanilla bean. I don’t know if this is one I would personally go right out and order, yet I would suggest if you enjoy this flavor profile to try some. I know Trail Lodge Teas has several other teas in their arsenal that I adore, so now and then I would probably add this to my cart before checking out.

Taster’s Review:

Wow!  This tea is quite fragrant!  As it was brewing in my Breville One-Touch tea maker in the kitchen, I could smell the distinct aroma of eggnog while watching television in the living room!  It smells deliciously creamy and custard-like, and the scent of nutmeg filled the house … yum!

Admittedly, I don’t drink a lot of eggnog, as I find it to be a bit much.  I like it, yes, but, after a few sips, I find myself wishing I hadn’t poured myself a whole glass, do you know what I mean?  It gets so cloyingly sweet and overwhelmingly creamy way too fast for me.

But, I don’t have that problem with this cup of tea.  Sure, it tastes rich and creamy and very eggnog-like, but, what I’m not experiencing with this cup of Eggnog Tea from Trail Lodge Tea that I usually experience with real eggnog is that palate-crushing, smothering sensation of creamy overload.

To cut through that creaminess, many eggnog drinkers add a shot of rum or other liquor to the custard-like beverage, but as I’ve mentioned several times on this blog, I’m not much of a drinker, so I don’t think that kind of addition would serve me well.

Instead, I’m finding the way to cut through the sweet, creamy decadence of eggnog is with a combination of white and green teas!  They give this cup a lightness and a fresh taste that I don’t find in a glass of real Eggnog, and I like that difference very much.   I like that I can enjoy a sweet, creamy eggnog-like treat, but without feeling weighed down or on the sugar high that real eggnog can take you.

THIS is my kind of eggnog!

Creamy Eggnog Tea from Butiki Teas

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Green

Where to Buy:  Butiki Teas

Tea Description:

Creamy Eggnog is part of our holiday series that encompasses a number of holidays from different religions. Many people might not think of eggnog as their number one choice for a Christmas flavor but Eggnog is particularly important in my family’s tradition of celebrating Christmas. Eggnog always marked the beginning of the Christmas season and was the last thing we would drink before we would try to go to sleep Christmas Eve. As a child, getting any sleep Christmas Eve would have been a miracle. There was always so much excitement and anticipation building. Creamy Eggnog pairs our buttery Organic Huangshan Mao Feng with a rich creamy eggnog flavor. The tea and flavor work well with each other and neither overshadows the other. This tea is sweet with a heavy cream and eggy quality. Add a little brown crystal sugar and the tea becomes extremely creamy, rich, and very much like eggnog. Some vanilla notes become pronounced and so do the egg notes. We added safflower for a touch of red for a festive Christmas colored tea.

Taster’s Review:

OH goodness … this is so good.  So creamy and delicious – you’d swear you’re drinking something incredibly sinful and fattening, but, it’s not.

The dry leaf is a simple yet beautiful looking tea with the curly green tea leaves and just a few red safflower petals to add a pretty holiday look.  The aroma has a strong vanilla tone that smells so sweet and creamy.   My mouth started watering before I even started the tea to brew.

The brewed liquid smells much more like eggnog.  It has a custard-y note to the fragrance, with an almost egg-y kind of scent.  And I like that I am tasting what I smell … a very egg-y, custard-y kind of flavor that is distinctly eggnog.  The flavor of the Organic Huangshan Mao Feng comes through nicely, and there seems to be a very pleasing balance between tea and eggnog taste.

I’ve tried a couple of different eggnog teas, and I’ve enjoyed most of what I’ve tried, but if I had to choose the best that I’ve tasted thus far, this one would be the absolute best.  Butiki Teas never ceases to amaze me with their ability to create amazing flavored teas.

Really, all that’s missing for me with this eggnog tea is a touch of nutmeg, because I always like to grind a little bit of fresh nutmeg to top my eggnog.  But, I think that can probably be easily remedied if I were to grind a bit of nutmeg into my teapot before the tea brews.  Just a wee little bit, enough to add a little bit of warmth and delicious nutty flavor to the cup.

Yum.  Just YUM!
