Two Seasons/teakruthi

teakruthi is a company that focuses on Ceylon teas. Personally, I did not think I was a fan of Ceylon teas since I always found them to be rather tannic and astringent. However, teakruthi was wonderful and shared generous samples of their teas in exchange for honest reviews. I have tried several of their teas now and I am happy to report that they have really changed my outlook on Ceylons. While I have not loved all of their teas, some have been quite enjoyable. In the enjoyable category is a blend called Two Seasons.

Two Seasons is one of a few blends that teakruthi carries as their focus is mostly on plain teas. Two Seasons is a mix of Pure Ceylon Black tea, Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe (FBOP), ginger root, and peach. I steeped the tea per teakruthi’s recommended steeping parameters: 3 minutes in 95C water.

Drinking the tea, Two Seasons definitely seems like a fitting name. It’s got warming ginger notes that are flavorful but not very spicy and to balance that, it has a soft fruitiness from the peach. As such, the tea captures both flavors that represent Winter and Summer. The flavors are present but mild which allows the full/medium-bodied base to come through as well. The base tea is floral, which the peach plays off nicely. Also, It can be a touch astringent at the end of the sip but not overly so.

This tea is a nice bridge between flavored and unflavored teas. While it definitely has flavoring to it, it’s not overwhelming which allows you to appreciate the base tea as well. Softer flavoring also means you are less likely to tire of it quickly, which makes this easy to drink over and over again.

Description

Mild in flavour, the high- and medium-grown black tea perfectly supports the delicate flavour infusion of ginger and peach. Hand-selected from the Sri Lankan wetlands on which it grows, the ginger in this tea boasts a subtle spiciness that harmonises with the flavour of the black tea. The sweet flavour of peach brings balance and peace to the spiciness of the black tea and ginger blend. Brewing to a deep copper in your cup, this tea is brimming with a tantalising blend of spicy, floral, and woody notes that are exclusively designed to exhilarate your taste buds while bringing peace to your mind.

White Ginger Pear/Tea Forte

I can’t believe I am enjoying a ginger tea to the point that I am happily resteeping! I NEED ginger for digestive issues but I have never enjoyed it, especially when there is enough of it to actually do you some good. It is hot, it is spicy, and I am a plain vanilla kind of gal.

One thing I do hold dear is licorice root. I know a lot of people don’t care for it, but I love the sweetness and body it gives to a blend and I prefer it to stevia…and that’s an understatement.

I have the loose leaf version of this tea and the website warns that the pyramid version may have slightly different ingredients so keep that in my mind if you decide to try it.

The aroma is GINGER, first, foremost, front and center. Since it is the first ingredient listed I assume it constitutes more of the blend. The first sip is soft and sweet, and the more you drink, the more the ginger builds.

Pear is a delicate flavor to me even when eating a fresh pear right out of hand, so pear with ginger is no contest. Ginger is definitely going to dominate. The nice thing is that you get little fruity flavors peeking now and again, adding another dimension to the tea. The white tea base is a nice little boost of antioxidants.

The tin lists all of the ingredients as being organic, so another bonus! Finally, a ginger winner for me! This is one I would definitely restock and consider it a treat to drink when feeling under the weather, or just a cup to enjoy.

Morning Booster/Immerse

Starting my day off with an herbal blend is not how I usually go about my day, but recently the SororiTea Sisters received a generous sampling of Immerse tea bags and I was eager to try these.  Immerse only produces organic herbal blends so let’s see how this one goes.

The first one I grabbed was Morning Booster- an herbal blend of roselle (hibiscus) and ginger.  This is not a combination I would have ever thought to put together but I was really intrigued.  Per the recommended steeping parameters on the box and the tea bag tag itself- this tea should be prepared with freshly boiled water and steeped for 4.51 minutes. ..  yep! 4.51.. .I’m not going to lie, that extra 51 second note is making me chuckle this morning.

After my water was prepped, I went to add in my tea bag.  The first thing I noticed was how dusty the tea bag is.  Not like dirt dusty but herbal dusty. The tea bag has quite the natural organic feel.

The tea bag may have steeped more than the recommended 4.51 minutes but I am quite delighted in this delicious mix of ginger and roselle.  The tart and spicy combination with a touch of sweetness really provides this lovely contrast and I found myself already draining this cup and setting out to have another. The ginger is spicy so be warned but it is a good spicy and not a I can’t breathe sort of spicy.  The tart/sweet tones that the roselle is bringing in really helps to balance out the tea.

Overall, I’m really impressed with this tea.  The packaging is gorgeous, the attention to detail is spot on, and the price is right.  I’m not sure that I would replace my morning caffeine with this blend but I could see myself drinking this after lunch to get over what I call the lunch wall.

Thank you Immerse for the samples! I will be sending these off soon to my fellow Sisters but before I do that, I’m off for another cuppa!

Ginger Peach Snowcone from T by Daniel. . . .

Ginger and peach are both popular tea flavors. Two flavors that can also be quite hit or miss. Here the two are paired on a white tea, something that can also be hit or miss. Ginger Peach Snowcone by T by Daniel is a hit.

Normally when it comes to tea with ginger, I always want a ginger burn. This tea has no burn but I think that is for the best. It is like a mix of fuzzy peaches sprinkled with some ginger flavor. A little sweet and slightly spiced. The best of both worlds to keep things in check. Both flavors come through while also being harmoniously blended and that’s what makes this tea great. It’s also what makes this ginger great even without the burn. The white tea is a bit roasty to compliment the other flavors.

T by Daniel is a Canadian company that has been around for as long as I have been drinking tea. They have a cute gimmick, displaying all their teas on their site in cute bow ties to compliment the bow ties they also sell online. They have some interesting blends and so far the ones I have tried have been enjoyable. One day soon I will probably crack and place an order with them, if for no other reason than I will want more of this tea.

52Teas’ the 12 Teas of Christmas – Day 4-Spoilers!

Day 4!

This tea has a great name and great flavor: Ginger Cola Black Tea. This tea is meant to reference the old timey soda shoppe flavor of ginger cola. Not to be confused with ginger ale, there is plenty of dark caramel cola taste and the sweet buzz of ginger. I think flavor comes from a time where sodas had more spice, like the New England Moxie soda, or even the cherry and spice flavors of Dr. Pepper.

Enough about soda, getting back to tea. I’m not sure what kind of tea is used as the base in this blend, but the leaves are a little longer and more tightly rolled than the typical black tea base, so they were chosen specially for this blend.

This tea smells and tastes remarkably like cola but in such a way that it’s spice still suits the tea. A touch of cloves and the caramel cola taste are balanced with the warm heat of candied ginger. The spices makes this appealing as a hot beverage but the cola flavors do make it promising as an iced tea too if you are so inclined.

As a fan of both ginger tea and ginger cola, this has been one of my favorite blends so far in the set. Hope I get a chance to order more!

Description:

I have a confession. I have been cheating on tea with a cola. Not like all the time – not even every day . . . but every once in a while, I’ll crack open a can of the ginger cola that’s made by one of the 2 big cola giants. I’m not going to name names because I don’t want to get a ‘cease and desist’ order – but it’s in a slender, tall, bright copper-orange can and it’s sold by individual cans rather than by the 6 or 12 pack.

Anyway, I originally only bought one can of this stuff – you know – just to try it. Curiosity. But I was hooked after my first sip. It’s so good – that little touch of ginger cuts through the syrup-y sweetness that usually turns me off when it comes to soda.

I happen to like the cola flavored teas (in most cases, more than I like cola itself) so I decided I should try to craft a ginger cola black tea to get me over my affair with the cola because I like it better when tea is the main beverage in my life.

So I started with a base of black teas from China (Golden Yunnan, Fujian & Assamica grown in the Jing Mai Mountains) and added ginger as well as some candied (sugared) ginger and some cola essence. And WOWZA! I’m loving it! This is tasty as a hot tea but it excels as an iced tea!
