Rajah Collection Organic Masala Chai from Hope & Glory

I have to say I have being having so much fun going thru the Hope & Glory Shipment that was sent and Rajah Collection Organic Masala Chai from Hope & Glory is one of those teas that I am VERY MUCH enjoying thus far!

I LOVE the packaging!  It goes along with their brand.  It’s colorful and clean.  The packaging also explains a lot with very little wordage.  It’s eye-catching and easy to comprehend while on-the-go!  On the back of the package I am looking at for the Rajah Collection Organic Masala Chai from Hope & Glory offering I noticed the ingredient breakdown and ratio.

The leaf grade of the Rajah Collection Organic Masala Chai from Hope & Glory is Orthodox Leaf – FBOP.  This blend of ingredients are 70% Organic Ceylon Black Tea, 30% fresh blend of organic spices which are made up of ginger, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, nutmeg, and black pepper.

I really appreciate the fact that Hope & Glory used 70% for the ratio of black tea base to the 30% chai spices.  The chai spices are perfectly done to my own personal liking.  The spices are not over powering nor are they too weak – they are JUST RIGHT!  Rajah Collection Organic Masala Chai from Hope & Glory is quite thrilling and certainly a tea I will be sharing with MANY.

Taster’s Review:

I was looking for a little spice in my life and I found it with this Pahadi Masala Chai Tea from Pahadi Tea.  Of course this Pahadi Masala Chai Tea from Pahadi Tea has Black Peppersorn, Cinnamon, Fennel, Cardamom, and Cloves paired with the Assam base (which is wonderful by the way) it also has the right amount of dried mint in there, too!  This blend of spices isn’t over the top like some chai teas but rather perfectly ratioed with each ingredient!

It’s spicy but comforting, warming, and not-gritty like some chais can be.  This is the first tea I have tried from Pahadi Teas and let me tell you I am very pleased and can’t wait to try another offering from this company!

I agree with the Pahadi Masala Chai Tea from Pahadi Tea product description…it’s invigorating, delicious, stimulating, comforting, warming, and just nicely done all around!

Taster’s Review:

This Vampire’s Kiss Tea from Herbal Alchemy Teahouse is the third of the teas that were sent to me by the organizers of the MidWest Tea Fest:  Herbal Alchemy Teahouse is one of the featured vendors at the festival!   After a quick glance at the list of scheduled vendors at the festival, it makes me wish that I was able to attend!  It looks like it’s going to be an awesome tea fest!!!

This blend is a combination of black tea, rose, chocolate and spices.  The tea brews up to be a dark, burgundy red – like a blood red color which makes me wonder if there’s hibiscus in this?  I didn’t see a full ingredient list, so I’m not sure, but if I were to wager a guess, I’d say that there’s either hibiscus or something ‘beet’ in this blend because of the color.

It doesn’t taste strongly of hibiscus, but I do get a slightly thick texture that I would normally experience from hibiscus.  That could also be from beet.  And because of the spicy notes, I’m not detecting anything that’s obviously tart from hibiscus or obviously sweet from the beet, so I’m not really sure what’s supplying the strong color, but I’m suspecting hibiscus because the flavor tastes more like hibiscus to me than it does beet.

So what do I taste?  I taste chocolate.  But it doesn’t taste like a creamy, rich kind of chocolate flavor, it tastes more like cocoa powder that’s been added to a spiced herbal tisane.  Or like cacao nibs/shells that have been added to a spiced herbal tisane.

I taste the spice!  The spices build gradually, staring out rather delicate, but after a few sips, I’m getting a warm burning sensation toward the back of my palate.

I also taste an odd, herb-y sort of flavor that I can’t really describe except to say it tastes sort of medicinal, but not in an unpleasant way.  It tastes like an herbal tea and as I continue to sip, I’m tasting more hibiscus-like flavors too.

But, I’m not complaining because the cocoa and the spice play with these hibiscus-like notes in such a way that it tastes more ‘berry like’ than it does the tart, syrupy flavor that I usually dislike from hibiscus.  It’s odd, it’s different, but somehow, it works!

midwestteafestMy biggest complaint about this tea?  I don’t taste much black tea flavor.  I’m getting a strong presence of the other flavors here, but the black tea seems almost non-existent.  I like that the chocolate is strong, I like that I taste notes of rose and even that hint of spicy cayenne pepper that builds on the palate.  I like that warmth from the spices.  I’m just wishing I had more black tea flavor here.

This seems a lot more like an herbal tisane to me than a black tea.  It’s good, though.  If you’re one who enjoys spicy drinks, this is something worth exploring!

And don’t forget about the Midwest Tea Fest!  If you’re going to be in the Kansas City, Missouri area on June 6th – you should definitely visit!  And if you can make the trip, GO!  It’s a great opportunity for tea lovers to get more information about the beverage they adore and an excellent way for those who are new to tea to learn more!

Taster’s Review:

The other day I walked in my living room to see my boyfriend had the second Hobbit on TV. . .again. . for the 10th time. . and I of course had to watch right along with him.  My 9 year old son came in a little after and he was also drawn in to the movie.  He had never seen it before so it was fun to enlighten him on all things Hobbit related.  His eyes lit up when Smaug came on the screen and was rooting for the dragon to destroy the merry band of traveling warriors.   Yep. . he is totally my kid.

While we were watching the movie, I remembered that I had this blend and hadn’t tried it yet.  This one was created as a Fandom blend for the Hobbit.  Honestly, I am not a fan of the Adagio teas on their own, but I do really enjoy them when they are in the Signature Blends.

This one is a interesting and different blend.  Green Chai, Assam Melody, and  Cinnamon (black favored tea).  Not flavors I would have paired together.   It smells very much like a cinnamon cake.  When brewed up, it tastes like a buttered up sweet potato with cinnamon on it and a tart like finish. Maybe even some sort of sweet potato pie.

It is a unique flavor. That is for sure.   I did overleaf it after I checked out some other reviews about this blend on Steepster.  A lot of the other reviews said it was bland and “meh”.  If I hadn’t dumped in about 1 1/2 tsps more I can see that being the case.  I did brew this up at work with my coffee pot water spout and then dumped the tea into ice for a iced green chai.  Maybe if I messed with the steeping parameters more I could bring more flavors out.  As it is,  the cinnamon and spices don’t over take the tea like some chai blends I have had before.  It is a very subtle and enjoyable chai blend with a rich buttery sweet potato finish.

Taster’s Review:

After trying two other rather lackluster teas from Twinings of London recently, I wasn’t sure what possessed me to actually try another today.  But I tried to keep a positive outlook and without having too high of expectations, I brewed this cup of Organic Chai from Twinings of London.

My initial thoughts:  this is better than both the two previous recent tastings of this company’s teas.  I can taste the robust Assam tea beneath the bold spices.  I like that all the flavors that I expected to taste are represented.

About now is where I might say something like “the flavor of the spices are well-balanced,” but I can’t really say that because they aren’t well balanced.  I taste more clove than any other spice.  I taste a hearty cinnamon flavor and in contrast, there is very little ginger flavor.  The cardamom is tasted, but, it’s not as strong as the clove and cinnamon.

But!  I do like the Assam here.  It’s a rich and flavorful tea.  It’s almost creamy because of its thick, malty texture and I find that very enjoyable.

Overall, it’s not a terrible chai.  It’s certainly not great though.  It’s not the tea that I’d keep stocked in the cabinet.  There are so many great teas out there and this is simply average or perhaps even just slightly below.
