Yunnan Black from The Little Red Cup Tea Co. . . . .

It’s been a while since I have tried a tea from The Little Red Cup Tea Co. and today I thought I would share their Yunnan Black with you!

Their Yunnan Black comes from Lincang which is just a stone’s throw from Burma and home to some of the oldest cultivated tea in the world – according to The Little Red Cup Tea Co. website and product description. The Yunnan Black Tea we are reviewing today is hand picked and tightly rolled but not rolled into balls or pearls but more of a rolled pressed leaf of sorts. The golden tipped leaves produce a deep amber hue in the cup and give off light scented notes of raisins, cocoa, and honey.

As for the taste…it’s delightful! Not only in the aroma but in the taste I could pick up on the natural raisin flavors and cocoa powder – especially if brewed dark – double the loose leaf at half the time. When double brewed I found this to be pretty hefty. It was a stronger Yunnan Black and I really liked it. I also brewed as suggested and found it just as tasty but not as brassy or brashy as the double brewed. Both attempted were successful and made me an instant fan!

Here’s the scoop!

Barb’s Breakfast Black Tea from White 2 Tea Co.

Barbs_Breakfast_Black_1-600x600Tea Type:
Black Tea

Where To Buy:
White 2 Tea Co.

Product Description:
The Barb’s breakfast black is an homage to my mother, who despite years of being baited with high-end Puer teas, still prefers to start her day with a heavily brewed pot of black tea in the morning. This Yunnan black tea blend is built to survive British style steeping as well as gongfu style brewing techniques.  Well balanced daily drinking black tea with a classic style, versatile enough to enjoy with breakfast on the go or in a slow and quiet tea session.

Tasters Review:
The more I drink tea the more I enjoy the long winding, squirrelly looking black tea leaves – you know the ones – that are two toned – dark brown AND light brown…that is what this black tea looks like dry and I LOVE it.  Once infused – the post infusion liquor is a darker brown.  Once I started sipping I noticed that the tea got a bit lighter once the liquid in the cup was about half way down so it wasn’t a dark bold brown color, really, but more of a brown-gray.

This tea is malty, a bit woodsy (especially on the 2nd infusion), a bit juicy, and SMOOTH.  It doesn’t leave an aftertaste and seems to do well with 2 to 3 infusions with still providing a good amount of flavor.  This is a great breakfast tea and would probably provide a nice boost as a mid-afternoon tea as well.  Delicious!

Taster’s Review:

This is a really nice tea. Maybe it is the cold weather and the holiday season but it makes me feel festive. I am sure this tea would also be amazing in the summer, cold brewed.

On first sip it reminded me a little bit of Constant Comment but trust me there is no comparison! This is by far and above better and has far more layers to it than a simple orange spiced tea.

The spice is balanced so perfectly and does not take over the wonderful citrus.

Often a tea will be named with “cake” in the title, or something indicating it should taste like cake, but this one really does and you won’t be disappointed in the bake-y goodness of this cup.

On the other hand, the sweetness is not over done and the cocoa nibs offer a perfect amount of chocolate goodness. I really love the way that sTEAp Shoppe handles the chocolate flavor in their teas, it tastes like good chocolate.

The aroma is intoxicating and the color of the cup is delightful to look at.

A tea that could be served at parties to please everyone.

All of the ingredients in this tea blend perfectly to make a well balanced delicious dessert or any time tea.
