Taster’s Review:

CHOCOLATE!  As I’ve confessed before, I am a chocoholic.  And since chocolate tea manages not only to appease the chocoholic in me, but the tea addict as well, chocolate tea is usually on my list whenever I shop for tea.

So, I was only too happy to receive this chocolate blend from The Tea Spot … and while it is not surprising that I like it, what is surprising is just how unique it is from other chocolate teas that I’ve tried in the past.

What makes this one so different is the tea base.  The tea used for this blend is a black Hong Maojian, and this single estate tea offers a richness to the cup that no ordinary Ceylon can duplicate.  Don’t get me wrong, I’ve tried and enjoyed many wonderful Ceylon teas, and it is true that not all Ceylon teas are alike; however, when it comes to the Ceylon that comprises the typical flavored tea base, there’s just no comparison.  This Hong Maojian with it’s golden tips is superior.

And the tea base really makes all the difference in the world.  This cup is rich and chocolate-y and smooth, with a lovely caramel-y undertone that complements the bittersweet chocolate notes.  There are hints of malt and a lovely consistency to this cup, it feels rich and luxurious on the palate.

If you like chocolate teas, this should be a MUST TRY on your list.  It is an exceptional chocolate tea, one that should be on the shelves of every chocoholic!
