Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish from 52Teas. . . .

This blend was one of 52 Teas’ monthly blends for May. I was excited when I saw it because I find it really unique and intriguing. I unfortunately steeped this cup a little too long because I was steeping some other teas at the same time and forgot to un-steep this one first. So, I took a tentative sip because I was thinking that it would be pretty bitter. Thankfully it wasn’t! Phew.

Guys and gals…let me tell you what this tea tasted like. Are you ready? You sure? It tasted like….A blueberry cream cheese danish. Shocking! No, i’m just being silly.

But really it does taste exactly like a blueberry danish with cream cheese. Both the dry leaf and steeped liquid smells like blueberry, but once I taste it I swear I can taste the cream cheese and sweet pastry bread. How they liquidized a blueberry danish, I have no idea. All I can say is that it tasted like Willy Wonka transformed a blueberry cream cheese danish into a mug of tea (instead of a stick of gum!) It is so creamy and tangy from the blueberries and cream cheese, but sweet from that classic danish icing and the sweet pastry bread.

This is a winner, hands down, one of my favorites of all time. I highly recommend you try it!

Blueberry Green Kukicha from Frontier Organic. . . . . .

When I smelled this tea, I knew right away I needed to make it into iced tea. I prefer fruitier teas cold for some reason. It smells like blueberries right away, and when you pour hot water over the tea, it really smells like blueberries!

Kukicha tea is also known as twig tea. It’s prepared from the stems and stalks of the tea shrub. That’s exactly what this tea looks like, twigs with some dried blueberries in the mix. Twig tea, or Kukicha tea is a nutritional powerhouse. It has six times more calcium than cow’s milk, and more vitamin C than an orange. Kukicha is highly recommended for those following a macrobiotic diet.

I am really enjoying the fruity, slightly grassy taste of this tea. It’s very refreshing. If you enjoy the grassy taste of green tea, you will love this. And if you find the grassy taste too much, you’ll probably also enjoy this because the blueberry flavor really shines. And if you’re like me and watching your caffeine intake, kukicha does have caffeine, but it’s a very small amount.

I had never heard of Kukicha tea before this, other than a random skit on Portlandia, and to be honest i thought they were making it up. After trying this tea and reading about all of the health benefits, I will be looking for more twig teas. If you like blueberries and green tea, I really recommend trying this delicious tea!!

Cassis & Blueberry from Lupicia

I’ve been ‘sitting on this’ review for a while. Not because I didn’t LOVE the tea – because I clearly DID – it’s because I didn’t want to throw the empty bag away. Seriously!

Cassis & Blueberry from Lupicia is a heavily flavored black tea. It’s flavored with Blueberry and Cassis…in case you don’t know what Cassis is…it’s usually a liquor made from black currants.

This flavored black tea is sweet and tart and my FAVORITE PART is that the sweet and tart come from the blueberry and currants and NOT hibiscus! Woot! NO hibiscus! I’ll say it again…NO HIBISCUS!

You can genuinely taste the fruity flavor. But with the black tea base it’s like the BEST of both worlds…a true black tea with yummy fruit. It’s not overly tart – just the right amount of tart. The tart that is present is counteracted nicely by the sweet. The flavor ratios are perfect!

This fruit flavored black tea is right up my alley…can’t they all be like this? I guess not…but I’m glad this one is! Cassis & Blueberry from Lupicia is a HIT with me! YUM!

And just for our readers, mention SororiTea Sisters when you check out from Lupicia and they will throw in a special treat!

Blueberries and Blossoms in My Cup! Rooibos Blend From The Kettlery

As much as I love pumped-up black teas and spicy chai teas, I do need an herbal comfort now and again.  Enter: Blueberry Blossoms Rooibos Tea from the Kettlery.  Unsurprisingly, the overall the focus of this blend is blueberry.  You can smell the berries in the dry leaf, and their flavor is very forward in the brew.  This tea is not too juicy, or fruit-heavy, like other blueberry blends with hibiscus or apple pieces.  This is more subdued and toasty, like a blueberry scone.

I can understand why rooibos teas might be a hit-or-miss for some people.  Red rooibos can taste like medicine if oversteeped and green rooibos can be bland if you are not in the mood for it.  This tea feels like a happy medium, an easy-going rooibos, strong enough to add some nuttiness underneath the blueberry flavors, but far from overpowering. I didn’t experience any sour or bitter tones when brewing this tea, only warm and gentle blueberry.

There are marshmallow blossoms listed in the ingredients list, which I found intriguing.  We all know what marshmallows taste like, little clouds of pure sweetness in cocoa or Lucky Charms, but they’re not quite the same as marshmallow blossoms.  My internet research tells me that mallow blossoms should taste a bit sweet, like their sugary counterparts.  Any additional sweetness in this tea gets wrapped up in the blueberry flavor, and I didn’t notice any unusual herbal tastes in this tea.  Perhaps the mallow blossoms are in this blend for their visual appeal.  The little lavender blossoms certainly are a nice pair with the deep purple blueberries.

If you’re looking for a gentle, nutty, blueberry tea without too much sour fruit or in-your-face hibiscus, I recommend brewing up a pot of Blueberry Blossoms Roobios from the Kettlery.

Something Blue from Pin Tea Shop

First of all, can I just say how much I adore the name of this tea company! PinTea Shop. Love the pinup look the labels have. I’ve always loved that vintage era of pin up girls and this company’s labels are just simply gorgeous!

This lovely blend is a brilliant mix of blueberries, green tea, and white tea. When you look at the dry leaf, you can see where the “Something Blue” concept comes to play-lovely white and green leaves with pops of blue.

Brewed up with a delicate hand so I wouldn’t oversteep, I allowed this tea to steep for about 3 minutes and to cool for another moment or two. Took my first sip and was ready to be greeted with fruity pops of blueberry. Which wasn’t what happened. Instead I was greeted with a sultry romantic profile that was full of gorgeous white floral notes, slightly hay like flavors, with a background of berry that is light and done with a delicate touch.

With this tea being Something Blue, I assumed the blueberry would just dominate the rest of the flavors and that did not happen at all. I’m crazy impressed with how very gentle this tea is with the flavorings. The tea bases really shine and there is a mystery with every sip because each sip is different in its very own way. This is one of those tea blends that really captures your attention and demands more time with you. Highly memorable, enjoyable, and one that I’ll reach for whenever I’m in the mood for a lightly flavored tea.
