Taster’s Review:

I was a little hesitant to try this First Flush Black Tea from Teatulia, to be honest!  A friend had reported back to me that she didn’t find it all that enjoyable, so, I hesitated trying it … but, I guess it just goes to show you that no two palates are the same because I’m really liking this … it’s quite good!

The coppery brown liquid smells sweet.  And it tastes sweet.  The sweetness here is reminiscent of the sugar-y sweetness of dried fruit … somewhere between raisins and dates.  It has a fair amount of astringency toward the tail of the sip, and I’m noticing this astringency more and more as I continue to sip – it develops.  It’s slightly dry.

The sip starts out with the dried fruit sweetness, and it moves into a leathery/earthy kind of flavor toward mid-sip, while the sweetness continues to be present throughout the sip.  About mid-sip, I notice hints of malt that mingle with the aforementioned sweetness, giving it an almost caramel-y flavor.

Overall, a really good cuppa!  And some other important things to note:  It’s organic and single estate from Bangladesh!  Because it is from Bangladesh, it is a slightly different tea journey … and one well worth experiencing.

Green Tea from Teatulia

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Green

Where to Buy:  Teatulia

Product Description:

What Is Green Tea?
Green tea hails from the two leaves and a bud of the Camellia sinensis plant that have undergone minimal oxidation during processing. The leaves are typically steamed or pan-fried.

Feel Good About Drinking Green Tea!
Recent studies indicate that green tea contains powerful antioxidants. Green tea is made from unfermented leaves and reportedly contains the highest concentration of powerful antioxidants called polyphenols. Antioxidants are substances that scavenge free radicals — damaging compounds in the body that alter cells, tamper with DNA, and even cause cell death. Free radicals occur naturally in the body, but environmental toxins (including ultraviolet rays from the sun, radiation, cigarette smoke, and air pollution) also give rise to these damaging particles. Many scientists believe that free radicals contribute to the aging process as well as the development of a number of health problems, including cancer and heart disease.

Taster’s Review:

I am sure that I’ve made it well-known that I prefer loose leaf to bagged tea.  That being said, I have found some rather decent (and maybe even better than decent) tasting teas made from the dreaded bagged tea, and say what you will about bagged tea, it IS convenient.  And sometimes the need for that kind of convenience outweighs all other factors.

Teatulia has become one of my favorite tea companies when it comes to bagged tea.  Their sheer, biodegradable pyramid infusers offer plenty of room for full expansion of the tea leaves, which means full flavor even from a bagged tea.   And they do not compromise when it comes to tea – their teas are remarkably fresh and of high quality.  Check out their website to learn more about their teas.  And if you just can’t bring yourself to buy bagged tea, no matter the quality, Teatulia offers their delicious tea in loose leaf form, too!

The aroma of the dry leaf is fresh and grassy – like freshly cut grass.  Once brewed, the liquor has more of a steamed veggie kind of fragrance.

The flavor is sweet and nutty.  There is a fresh, leafy taste to this, as well as a hint of creamy buttery taste.  It presents itself very smoothly to the palate, and there is very little astringency to this cup.  It has a light, invigorating flavor that uplifts the spirit.

A nice tea to curl up to on a chilly afternoon – it is also quite refreshing iced (especially nice with a bit of mint or a thin slice of lime).

White Tea from Teatulia

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  White

Where to Buy:  Teatulia

Product Description:

Delicately rich with a hint of peach. Excellent choice for starting off a hot summer day or relaxing in the early evening. Also a perfect choice for those new to tea– the sweet, subtle flavor is a lovely introduction to the world of tea.

Taster’s Review:

Through the sheer pyramid sachet I could see that this was a silver needle white tea, although I’m finding the flavor to be a bit stronger than some of the silver needle teas I’ve tasted.  It is sweet and rich… lush!  Lush is the word I’d use to describe the flavor and texture of this tea.

The aroma of the dry and wet leaf is quite vegetative, as is the fragrance of the brewed liquor.  However, I don’t get a lot of vegetative taste from this.  There is some vegetal flavor, but it is very delicate… and that somewhat grassy taste can be amplified by the simple act of inhaling the aroma before taking a sip.

While I have come to appreciate the grassy taste of green and white teas, I still prefer the fruit and floral notes of this tea over the grassy tones – and those flavors are very much in abundance with every sip.

This is an excellent white tea.  It is mild enough in flavor for those who find green teas to be a little overwhelming, but yet it is not as delicate as some of the white teas I’ve tasted.  This would be a really good white tea for those who are new to it.  I highly recommend it.

Peppermint from Teatulia available at Harrod’s

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Herbal Tisane

Brand Name:  Teatulia

Available from:  Harrod’s

Product Description:

Teatulia’s unique, buttery peppermint tea will awaken your senses. Naturally caffeine free, it is crisp and totally satisfying.

Taster’s Review:

OK, when I first received this tea, I thought, “eh… another peppermint leaf.”  No big deal, right?  WRONG!  This has to be the most unique peppermint I’ve yet to taste.  I don’t know what makes it different, but it really is.

The background to this is solid and brisk which lead me to re-examine the label to make sure it was 100% peppermint leaf with nothing else added.  I thought for sure there must be black tea in this!

In addition to the usual notes that I’d expect from a peppermint tisane –  clean minty flavor, refreshing, crisp notes – there is also a buttery taste to it, and a richness that reminds me of the baked flavor you might get from an Assam black tea.   When I sip on a peppermint tea that is 100% pure organic peppermint like this is, I expect a strong MINT flavor, of course, and that is there, but there is so much more to it than just mint.  And the mint isn’t an overwhelming, mouthwash-y mint.  It is clean and fresh-tasting, yes, but surprisingly non-mouthwash-y.

Perhaps the most satisfying peppermint tea experience I’ve had yet!

White Tea from Teatulia

Tea Type: White Tea

Where To Buy: Teatulia

Product Description:

A medium-bodied delicacy with hints of peach. Made from the youngest and rarest tea parts.

What Is White Tea?
White tea also comes from the Camellia sinensis plant, however is minimally processed. It is harvested before the leaves open fully, when the buds are still covered by fine white hairs, hence the name. Once the buds and leaves are handpicked, they are very carefully and meticulously steamed and dried.

Is there Caffeine?
Yes, about 2/3 less than coffee

Feel Good About Drinking White Tea!
Because of the very careful and delicate harvesting process, white tea retains the most nutrients versus black or green tea. Recent studies show that white tea is 10% more effective in improving immune health than its green cousin.

Tasters Review:

The dry leaf of this White Tea from Teatulia smells like sweet basil…with a hint of mint underneath.   The leaves are a fuzzy and frosty.

The wet leaf has a very vegetal scent.

This has a very light and clean taste.  It’s a refreshing and relaxing sip all the way thru.  I can pick out the slightest bit of peach likeness, too!

The color of the liquid is a very, very light brown with a yellowish hue.

This has a nice relaxing, mellow flavor that I really like as an end to a hectic day!

If you want a good quality – plain/white tea…try this one from Teatulia!  It comes in loose leaf and/or bagged.  Both make for a more than decent cuppa!
