RYCBAR by Fandom Teas. . . .

I’m a Doctor Who fan and, even with the information that this is an “impossible girl” inspired tea, it still took me several seconds to figure out what the name of this blend meant. Maybe my brain was just really slow today? Hopefully you can figure it out faster. ūüėČ

I steeped two teaspoons of this tea in ten ounces of 175-degree water for three minutes.

While steeping, it starts smelling fruity right away. This is a flavored tea (raspberry-pomegranate flavored) and the tea liquid is much darker than an unflavored green tea would. That might be from the raspberry, although it’s not really pink; it’s a sort of clear and handsome brown color with a reddish tinge.

First sip: It’s definitely fruity and sweet. Pomegranate and raspberry are both quite tart fruits, but the tartness isn’t coming through too strongly here, although yes, there is quite a bit of astringency. The fruity flavors complement each other well, and the green tea base sings backup; I’m hard put to it to distinguish its flavor components separately, yet I can still tell it’s there.

With sugar: Sweeter, of course. But surprisingly, I can taste the green tea base a bit more now. The sugar tames the astringency but doesn’t really bring out the fruity flavors like I hoped/assumed it would.

I bet this one would be great as iced tea too, but wouldn’t want to try milk with it because it might be too acidic for that.

All in all a fun tea, and one that I’d like to try iced (or as cold-brew) if I ever have the chance to try it again!

Boomstick from Fandom Tea

Yes, I am a huge horror fan.  One of the first movies I remember watching when I was a kid with my dad is Army of Darkness. At the time, I just thought it was a fun weird off the wall movie. I loved every cut scene and one liner.  Plus, the leading actor had this crazy chin.  Little did I know this movie would actually set the tone for a good chunk of my life and my obsession with all things horror and supernatural.

When Starz green lighted Ash vs Evil Dead, I was ecstatic! I couldn’t wait and when the show aired, I was instantly in love! Even tho I still love the original Evil Dead movies, there is a special place in my heart for this series. ¬†Any way I can get more Bruce Campbell, I’m all over it.

So let’s chat about this tea dedicated to the Evil Dead Series, Boomstick. ¬†If you are familiar with the series, Boomstick is one of the iconic fixtures of the movies/show. ¬†Boomstick is the gun that Bruce Campbell aka Ash uses. ¬†With that kind of description, you would think this would be a smoky blend of some sort. While there is a underlying smoke from this green flavored tea, there is also a sweetness.

Boomstick is a gunpowder green tea with strawberry flavorings added in. Sweet yet smoky and that is exactly the flavor profile of this tea as well. What you really come away with are this rich bursting strawberry notes that sweetened that smoky gunpowder green tea perfectly. The perfect way to describe the main character as well.  He is sweet and cares as much as he is sleek and charming, well and maybe a bit off the wall as well.

Overall, a great flavored unique tea that was bursting with so much fresh flavor. ¬†I could see this being an amazing tea as a cold brew too. Especially with those chilly fall/winter days upon us. ¬†A fresh burst of strawberry can always brighten up someone’s day.

I will be ordering more of this tea so I can watch the series premiere of season 2 of Ash Vs Evil Dead in style while drinking out of my awesome mug! And yes, I have to end this review like this. . .Groovy!

Taster’s Review:

I will admit this and probably sound like a poser but I do not watch Doctor Who. ¬†I have nothing against the show and do have an interest in one day watching it, but really it comes down to time. ¬†With our schedule being so hectic, I’m going to bed basically as soon as my 10 year old is to catch up on a few games I play on my Kindle and to read. ¬†My TV watching really happens more on the weekends or when I’m yelling at the screen during America Ninja Warrior. ¬†I’m kinda obsessed with that show right now. (Ryan Stratis- I’m looking at you to win this year!).

Ok, that is out of the way I have to say I’m very intrigued with the combinations in this black flavored tea. ¬†Peach, ginger, cinnamon, spearmint, and hibiscus. ¬†And you can smell each ingredient as the tea steeps. ¬†The color is a beautiful amber and so far I’m enjoying just sitting here indulging in the fragrance this tea is emitting.

Now it is time for the taste test.  I brewed this tea up like a black tea and made an effort not to allowing this tea to oversteep and become bitter.  So how does it taste?

Unique. Very unique. The flavor that hits you first is the combination of spearmint, peach, and cinnamon. ¬†Very different. ¬†Not bad, just different. ¬†As the taste starts to end you come away with the hibiscus aftertaste. ¬†In the very next sip I came away with peach and ginger notes with malty hints. ¬†It seems like each sip you are presented with a different flavor combination. ¬†As the tea cools, I am definitely getting that astringency but it really isn’t adding anything to the tea. ¬†I’m wishing that the tea was either more of a peach, sweet cinnamon, black tea without the ginger but I could see where some tea drinkers may want that hint of spice in the tea to give it a kick.

Being not much of a ginger tea fan, I can see where this one isn’t right up my alley. ¬†I do enjoy how different the tea is and if a tea is part of a fandom, I’m all over it being the geeky gal I am. ¬†I’m just not sure if this particular tea is for me. ¬†But they have several more fandoms I’m excited to try including a Game of Thrones tea and a Walking Dead tea.

Sipdown #34!
