Taster’s Review:

Golden Tips has some of the most incredible natural tasting black teas I have ever experienced and this Jungpana Premium Darjeeling Black Tea from Golden Tips is no exception.  Their black teas are so heavy on crisp flavor that THAT is what I always find the most memorable about the black teas I have had from Golden Tips.

Jungpana Premium Darjeeling Black Tea from Golden Tips is a full-bodied Darjeeling black tea that is robust and multi-layered in flavored.  It’s exceptional on many levels.  It’s slightly Earthy but in a delightful way.  There are crusty textures ad dark chocolate hints that keep you wondering with each sip.  The end sip on to the after taste provide a non-bitter floral flavor that lingers nicely and makes you crave me.  I can totally see why this tea is among their best sellers each and every season.

It’s an easy decision to add Jungpana Premium Darjeeling Black Tea from Golden Tips to my list of all time favorite black teas.  Yum!

Taster’s Review:

Namring Special Autumn Darjeeling Black Tea from Teabox is not only a ‘mouthful’ to say – it’s also a ‘mouth full’ of tea to enjoy!  Some of you already know that I start each and every day with a black tea and then after that I move on to other types of tea to enjoy throughout the day.  When it comes to the tea base that I go thru the most that would be black teas.  Namring Special Autumn Darjeeling Black Tea from Teabox is a black tea I would be proud to have in my tea stash at any given time.

Once infused it smells like what you would expect from a black tea base with an added speck of ‘crust’ to the aroma.  Namring Special Autumn Darjeeling Black Tea from Teabox ‘brews’ deep and dark and the brown color stands strong.  As for the taste it’s a medium-strength black tea flavor but more importantly (for me) it’s a bit astringent (but in a good way) and has a slight crusty flavor in the middle of the sip and subtle plum flavor towards the end of the sip.

Oh…how I LOVE teas with multiple layers and flavor morphing profiles.  This one didn’t disappoint!  Namring Special Autumn Darjeeling Black Tea from Teabox is “A O K” in my book!

Taster’s Review:

Went into this one without much of an idea what to expect; there’s very little information on the retailer’s website (it looks like they’re more set up for local in person shopping than online orders) and there aren’t any Steepster reviews yet other than my own. But this was really good!

In fact, it was actually so good I did two infusions of it which is something I hardly ever do for anything other than oolong when I’m steeping Western style. It’s really rare for me, personally, to want to drink the same tea multiple times in one day; I just want to experience as much as possible! So that definitely says something.

The dry leaves are really pretty; they’re long and twisty and have this rusty kind of tint to them that really popped as they were steeping; very tawny and autumn like! The steeped up brew was a really pretty amber colour. It kind of reminded me of the colour of a good beer, actually.

This was actually a lot less brisk and full bodied than I had expected it to be; there was some light astringency with the first steep but that went away with the second. Other than that bit of astringency both infusions were very similar though; they had a gentle sweetness to them with top notes of fragile honeycombs and really gentle undercurrents of malt and fresh baked French bread. The finish went back to sweeter honey with floral notes as well.

This is NOT a tea to drink with milk; you would absolutely drown out the subtler, delicate flavours that are present. It’s a shame it’s not really something I can get online and it’s not available to me locally because if it was available for a reasonable price I’d totally be interest in getting a bit more of this one.

Goomtee Autumnal Black Tea from Udyan Tea

GoomteeAutumnalTea Information:

Leaf Type:  Black (Darjeeling)

Where to Buy:  Udyan Tea

Tea Description:

Goomtee is a very well known Darjeeling heritage garden planted with pure china bushes almost a century ago. This tea is for the strong hearted autumn flush lovers as it has a strong body with a very slight tinge of muscatel (grape flavour usually associated with second flush Darjeelings). It is a well balanced cup that leaves a stong after taste as well. With repeated steepings, the liquor becomes sweeter and midler. Perfect tea for long winding day with a good book in hand to read.

Taster’s Review:

A lovely second flush Darjeeling tea, this Goomtee Autumnal Black Tea from Udyan Tea!  It’s a stronger tea than what you might expect from a Darjeeling tea.  This is not as crisp and light as a typical Darjeeling, but it’s not as heavy as other black teas.  This still has a very recognizable Darjeeling character to it.  When I sip this, my palate still identifies it as a Darjeeling.

And the question I usually have for a Darjeeling (especially a second flush) is:  am I tasting muscatel?  And the answer here is YES!  The muscatel here isn’t as strong as one of those lighter, crisper second flush Darjeeling teas but there is still that lovely, muscat grape taste that I absolutely covet when it comes to Darjeeling.

The sip starts out brisk with woodsy notes.  Almost immediately after my palate notices those woodsy tones, I start to pick up on a sweetness that reminds me of the sweetness I’d experience from golden raisins.  By mid-sip, that raisin-y note transcends into something more like a muscat grape taste.  The finish is dry and slightly astringent, but not overly so.

When it comes to Darjeeling teas, the autumnal harvest is usually my favorite, so I’m really glad that I got to experience this Autumnal Black from the Goomtee estate.  It’s really delightful to sip.

Taster’s Review:

I’ve tried quite a few Darjeeling teas from Golden Tips so far and I’ve been impressed with what I’ve tried.  This Organic Jungpana Premium Autumn Flush follows in fashion.  This is a wonderful Darjeeling!

I brewed this tea in my Breville tea maker, adding 2 bamboo scoops of tea to the basket and pouring 500ml of water to the pitcher.  Then I set the temperature for 195°F and the timer for 2 1/2 minutes.  It’s been my experience that Darjeeling teas do better with a slightly lower temperature.

And the result is a cupful of deliciousness!  This is a delightfully complex Darjeeling.  It’s crisp.  The body of this tea falls somewhere between light and medium.  There is some astringency to this, but not a lot.  Just a slightly dry sensation toward the tail.  No bitterness – just wonderful flavor that keeps me sipping.

The sip starts out with a sweet note that’s slightly grape-y.  This tea has a distinct wine-like flavor (muscatel!) and there are some notes of flower.  By mid-sip, the grape notes become more defined.  I taste subtle woodsy tones and hints of earth.  As the sip goes into the finish, there is a slightly dry, sweet note.  The aftertaste is sweet with just a hint of tartness that reminds me of currant.

A fantastic Darjeeling.  This is the kind of tea that I’d recommend to any tea drinker, especially to those who are new to Darjeeling.  This tea would be a great way to start one’s journey into the wonderful world of Darjeeling tea!
