Taster’s Review:

Beverly Hills Breakfast from Compass Teas is a must try. First of all its a yellow tea, which I adore yellow teas, secondly it is a bright, cheerful cup that is an excellent breakfast treat.

This tea can be purchased by the ounce or in a try me size which is really special because yellow teas are not only a little more rare to come by but usually you won’t find a means to sample them easily.

You can learn more about yellow tea here.

I was really happy to find this tea in my most recent package of tea samples from my SororiTea Sister Jennifer. I love yellow teas and am always eager to try a new one. I do recall having seen this tea offered by Compass before but I sort of spaced it out and never got around to ordering any. Also I will admit, orange flavored teas are not generally my “go to” flavor in teas, yet I am so happy to have had the chance to sample this one. It’s quite delightful!

Its sunny, crisp, citrusy, yet there is this champagne bubble like sensation that reminds me of a mimosa!

I suppose I should not be surprised, after all this is how the tea is described, but I’m really happy with how the blend comes over on the palate. Its light, refined, yet flavorful.

Compass Teas did a really good job on this blend!

Taster’s Review:

Strawberries & Sham-pag-nee from Cuppa Crew Tea Company is simply perfection, divine, delicious, creamy, strawberry, goodness!

Cuppa crew may not have the largest list of teas yet, as they are still building their site and tea collection, however what I have tried form them thus far have all been stellar!

I love a really well done strawberry tea. Before this cup, I had two stash staples of strawberry tea. Now I have three! I also love a really good champagne inspired tea. I always have one or two of those in my stash as well. Usually I run into champagne and strawberry blends featuring white tea, but this one is with a lovely Darjeeling black base. First of all, Darjeeling, YES PLEASE! Second of all, who said I can’t have champagne in the morning? Well, Cuppa Crew understands my needs! A wonderful black base of really fine Darjeeling, with a creamy soft strawberry flavor and that sparkling like essence of champagne. I am in heaven!

This tea is everything I want in my strawberry tea and my champagne tea. The funny thing is I never really knew I wanted a creamy champagne tea before this cup! Its like having an iced Italian champagne soda with delightful and quite flavorful strawberries.

There is not one bit of astringency, no bitterness, and I even over steeped my first cup! The strawberry flavor is not tart but rather quite sweet and juicy. It tastes like creamer has already been added and a touch of sugar, but not too much as this is not a cloying cup.

It is sweet all on its own and does not need any added sugar, or creamer, or anything. All I have to do now is roll out of bed, stick some tea in my strainer, add boiling water, and I am good to go. However I could see this tea making you want to stay in bed just a little longer, dreaming of laying on rose petals with a handsome man or pretty lady next to you. Its a romantic flavored tea and PERFECT for Valentine’s day which is fast approaching!

Right now, Cuppa Crew has a sale going on as well and you better believe I am grabbing some more of this up RIGHT NOW!

See ya, gotta go get in on that deal!

Tasters Review:

It’s been a while since my last YELLOW Tea Review here at Sororitea Sisters. When I saw that Compass had this one available I was super excited to try this one but wanted to save it for the right moment.

First – LOVE the name! Beverly Hills Breakfast Tea sounds SO Very posh!

The aroma is out-of-this-world!  It’s Slightly peppery aroma meets yellow tea meets Mimosa/Champagne/Orange flavors all working hand-in-hand.

I would have to say I can taste the yellow tea along side the orange – first and foremost.  Then I can taste a bit of spice – a mild pepper – perhaps – almost like a white peppercorn, maybe.  Then…a subtle champagne type flavor on the end. Even with the flavors – it’s incredibly clean. There is a nice amount of ‘juiciness’ to it, too!

This is a very lovely flavored yellow tea from Compass.  I’m so glad I was able to try it and share it with you!

Taster’s Review:

I love champagne and wine infused teas. This Champagne Rose from Lupicia Tea is one of my favorites. I really enjoy that this is blended with black tea rather than white which is rare as most champagne infused teas are in a white tea base due to the more delicate nuisances of white tea and the lighter flavor of champagne but Lupicia has figure out a way to make a black tea really sparkle with champagne flavor!

Now technically this is called Champagne Rose’ not Rose, but for the sake of finding it in the database here I left off the ‘ on Rose’. There is no rose in this tea. Rose’ would reference more of a pink champagne flavor due to the strawberries I suppose.

The strawberry notes are on the light side but oh so wonderful! The tea tastes just like fresh juicy strawberry. Mixed with the sparkling note of champagne we have ourselves a real winner.

The black base is that of a generic black tea, hearty and robust, with no real hints of maltiness, or cocoa elements. In other words fairly non de-script, except for just the right hint of astringency to compliment the champagne flavor note. I think somehow that slight astringency works with the flavors of this tea as not to outshine the delicate notes of strawberry or champagne, yet adding just the slight touch of dryness and astringency you would find in champagne.

I adore Lupicia Tea and have only found one or two out of all their blends that I did not enjoy throughly. Usually that is due to them being a red rooibos blend, I am simply not fond of red rooibos. Other than that, for me, Lupicia Teas are one of my favorite brands.

As a person who does not consume alcohol, this Strawberry Rose from Lupicia is my celebratory tea!

Oriental Beauty from Zi Chun Tea Co.

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Oolong

Where to Buy:  Zi Chun Tea Co.

Tea Description:

This exotic “Champagne of Tea” is probably the most fascinating of all the oolong teas. Its rich taste & sweet, smooth honey aroma gives it a unique flavor, not unlike a fine mellow, black tea.Its processing is characterized by heavy oxidation (60% to 70%) and heavy withering (13% to 25%). The oxidation process is initiated before the leaves are plucked by nature’s assistance in the form of small insects biting the tender leaves. See this article in T Ching for more information on this amazing tea.

Taster’s Review:

I’m really enjoying this Oriental Beauty from Zi Chun Tea Company.  Of course, that comes as no surprise to me, because I love Oriental Beauty Oolong teas!

What never ceases to amaze me though, is just how amazing the flavor is of an Oriental Beauty.  It’s so different from other Oolong teas.  It has a bright fruit taste, rather than a floral one (although there are some floral tones), and this particular Oriental Beauty offers not just a sweet fruit note, but also a compelling and contrasting sour note, providing a very savory tea experience.

I brewed this the way I typically brew an Oolong – in my gaiwan! – using short steeping times.  I start with a quick rinse (10 – 15 seconds), discarding the liquid, and then I steep the first infusion for 45 seconds.  I pour this into my cup, and then I add the water to my gaiwan for the second infusion.  I add 15 seconds to each subsequent infusion, so this second infusion is steeped for a minute.  After a minute has lapsed, I pour the liquid into the same cup as my first infusion, combining the two infusions.  I like to combine the infusions, as it makes for a very satisfying tea flavor.  Each infusion of an Oolong tends to have slightly different qualities, and when I combine the two infusions this way, it provides a rich, lovely flavor.

Subsequent infusions of this Oolong reveal slightly more floral notes, but these are slight.  I find that the fruit tone remains strong here, and by the third and fourth infusions, I start to notice a honey-esque note emerge.  This gets stronger with the third cup (infusions five and six).   By this time, the flavors have become more seamless, and the sour tones have softened significantly.  It is a very soothing tea to drink.

I really enjoyed this Oolong – it truly is a beauty!
