Taster’s Review:

This Passion Fruit Oolong Tea from Tea Licious has a delicious, sweet, fruity flavor with just enough tart notes to it to keep the taste interesting.

The aroma of the dry leaf is very fruity.  Once the leaves are brewed, the sweet notes in the fragrance temper a little bit, and I notice more of a vibrant “tea” scent and not so much of the strong fruity tones.

The passion fruit notes really play to the fruit notes in the tea.  Usually with a greener Oolong like this one, I tend to notice more of a “floral” tone than a fruity one, but, here I notice more of the fruity notes of the Oolong, with the flowery notes sitting off in the background to provide a little contrast and complexity.

The passion fruit flavor is really well defined in this tea.  I’ve tried a few passion fruit teas where the flavor isn’t always as prominent as I would have liked it to be, but here, the flavor is definitely passion fruit.  It doesn’t hide.  It’s loud and proud, but even though it is a foreground note, it doesn’t overpower the sweet, lush notes of the Chinese Oolong.

The texture is soft and smooth.  Subsequent infusions of these leaves allow the flavoring to subside just a little bit and allow for more enjoyment of the Oolong’s complex qualities.

A really delightful tea – this makes a FABULOUS iced tea!

Taster’s Review:

I know that I’ve gushed on about the many flavors of Matcha from Red Leaf Tea before, but, I really love that I can STILL go to the Matcha pages on  the Red Leaf Tea website and still find flavors that I still haven’t yet tried!  Their number of selections just can’t be beat!  There’s a flavor there for everyone!

And I really like this Passion Fruit Flavored Matcha from Red Leaf Tea!  It’s really delightful!  Sweet and fruity, but with just enough of a tart flavor to keep it from tasting too sweet.  It doesn’t taste like candied fruit or an overly sweet concoction … it tastes like true passion fruit flavor mixed with creamy, smooth Matcha goodness!

For this flavored Matcha blend, I went with my “usual” specifications – the classic grade of powdered green tea, flavored with a distinct level of Passion Fruit flavoring.  And this is just right.  The passion fruit flavor is strong and distinct, but, not overpowering.  The Matcha has a creamy, vegetative taste to it, with very subtle hints of butter.  The aftertaste is sweet and fruity.

The passion fruit notes are sweet and juicy tasting, but I like that they don’t taste TOO  sweet.  There are some really invigorating tart notes to this bowl of Matcha.  I’m not puckering as I sip this or anything, but, I find that the tart notes really perk up the overall flavor.  It sort of energizes the flavor – brightens it!

The Matcha is very smooth, and it froths up nicely.  I like that now that I’m nearly finished with this chawan of Matcha, that I still have some froth in the bowl.  I also like that the powdered green tea stays incorporated in the hot water.  It hasn’t settled into a pile of sediment at the bottom of the bowl.  The last sip is just as smooth and creamy and delicious as the first sip was!

I enjoy this served hot as well as cold.  For a quick and easy refreshment, try scooping some of the powder into a water bottle filled with cold, filtered water, and give it a vigorous shaking to thoroughly integrate the Matcha into the water – and drink!  It’s a delicious way to enjoy Matcha and quench your thirst too.  This is also a great Matcha to try as a latte – just prepare the Matcha as you normally would, but with about half the amount of hot water, and then warm some milk and replace the other half of the water with the steamed milk!  The creamy notes and texture of the milk really taste amazing with the passion fruit!

Taster’s Review:

The aroma of the dry leaf of this Passion Berry Jolt Black Tea Blend from Tiesta Tea is delightful!  Highly fragrant with notes of passion fruit and raspberry, and lovely floral tones … I found myself very eagerly awaiting this tea to HURRY UP and brew!  I couldn’t wait to taste it.

And I’ve tried a number of passion fruit flavored teas … and it probably goes without saying that some I’ve enjoyed more than others.  This one … this one is spectacular!  This is one of the best passion fruit flavored teas I’ve encountered.   The passion fruit and the raspberry meld BEAUTIFULLY together.  I don’t really consider myself to be an expert on things passion fruit flavored, but I will say that I am really enjoying this tea’s fruit flavoring.

The fruit tastes very authentic … it doesn’t have that chemical-y, artificial-ish taste that sometimes accompanies fruit flavored teas.  This tastes more like real fruit to me.  It is sweet, juicy-tasting, and there is just enough tartness to the flavors to keep it from being a cloying drink.  Very pleasant, and very easy to sip.

And I like that I taste the black tea here.  It is an Assam base, and it is good and strong like a good Assam should be.  It has a hint of malty taste, and just a hint of a wine-ish kind of flavor too … and it’s this wine-like note that works so well with the fruit flavors, enhancing the berry tones and offering depth to the passion fruit notes.  The combination of these three elements – Assam tea, passion fruit and raspberry – work so well together.

The flower adds more to the visual interest of the dry leaf than it does to the actual flavor, and I’m OK with that.  I found the way these flavors came together to be so enjoyable that I didn’t need there to be more to the floral tones than maybe a hint or two of floral taste to the cup.  I find that the floral notes do emerge more once the tea has cooled.

A really delightful cuppa from Tiesta Tea … this one may be my favorite that I’ve tried from them thus far!  I highly recommend this one!  I suspect that if you try it, it may just become a STAPLE in your tea cupboard during the summer … because it’s awesome iced!

Taster’s Review:

This is one tea that really benefits from a little patience on the tea drinker’s part (in this case, that tea drinker would be me!)  The first couple of sips, I found to be very lightly flavored (almost too light in flavor), and a wee bit too astringent.  However, after those first couple of sips, I found that this tea really begins to develop.

The flavor of the passion fruit starts out rather subtle, and then after two or three sips, I notice the flavor really begins to emerge.  With those first couple of sips, I was kind of like … well, that might be passion fruit … this is alright.  But now, the flavor really has come forth and presented itself and it is fruity, sweet and delicious, with an ever-so-subtle tartness in the background.

The black tea, on the other hand, starts out pretty aggressively, with a slight bitterness toward mid-sip and a strong astringent finish.  However, once the flavors of the passion fruit presented themselves in a more powerful way, the bitterness seems to have disappeared and the astringency has softened significantly.

The first couple of sips… weren’t really what I’d consider bad at all, but, they just didn’t represent a great cup of tea.  But, once I got past those first less-than-stellar sips, I have discovered Passion Fruit GOLD!   This is also great iced!

Passion Fruit Black Tea from Design A Tea

Company Description:

Koslanda – Dimbulla blend from Sri Lanka with all natural flavoring

Taster’s Review:

This is a simple yet really tasty blend from Design A Tea.  The passion fruit flavor is sweet and sumptuous.  The flavors taste natural and almost nectar-like.  It’s deliciously tropical.

The black tea base is a mellow black tea blend – not particularly stout or robust, but I don’t think that is what is needed here.  A stronger tea would interfere with the balance of flavors.  As it is, this blend allows me to taste the even-toned black tea and the sweet flavor of the fruit.  And I like it!

I enjoyed this tea immensely as both a hot tea and an iced tea.  It is refreshing and … I don’t know what it is about this tea.  Maybe it’s the tropical essence, or the mellow black tea base, or a combination of the two, or maybe it’s something else entirely.  But there is SOMETHING about this tea that has a very tranquil and calming effect.   It’s very nice!

If you visit the website for Design A Tea, you won’t find this tea readily available as a signature blend.  However, you can order this blend by designing it.  They let you design your own samples, too!
